Students' aviation lesson off to a flier

Quote from the Northern Echo - very well done Eastern. :ok::D:D:D:ok:

Students' aviation lesson off to a flier
From the archive, first published Tuesday 17th Jul 2007.

YOUNGSTERS with learning difficulties were given a "once in a lifetime opportunity" yesterday(16) when an airline chartered a special plane to give them a taste of the high life. Pupils from Catcote School, in Hartlepool, got to see the North-East from a completely new perspective when regional airline Eastern Airways arranged for them to experience a flight as part of their project on aviation. They were treated to a 35-minute flight on the airline's 29-seater Jetstream 41 aircraft from Durham Tees Valley Airport, which took them over Hartlepool, Sunderland and Newcastle, before heading down the coast to Whitby and back to the airport, via Middlesbrough and Stockton. It was the first time that many of the youngsters had flown and teachers said it was an experience the pupils would never forget. Lynne Anderson, a teacher at the special school who accompanied the children on the flight, said the youngsters had thoroughly enjoyed the experience. "It is an opportunity they are never going to have," she said. "For the last five weeks in school, we have done a different theme and one of the themes was flight. We thought the ultimate would be to bring the children on a flight." It is definitely something we're going to take back as a school and repeat. The learning and education that has come out of it has been phenomenal. "The children thought it was absolutely fantastic. "The airline's base captain, Martyn Saxton, piloted the plane, said: "Eastern Airways has been operating scheduled flights from Durham Tees Valley for more than seven years and this was an excellent opportunity to support a local school covering flight as their topic as well as putting something back into the local community. "Many of these children haven't flown before so this is a dream come true for them. "Pupil Chris Ainsley, 17, said: "I was totally nervous about being on a plane because I've never been on one before. It's great."Graeme Skinner, 18, added: "I have just loved it, every single minute of it."

This is what makes Eastern Airways! I had two great years there and was proud to work for them.

Nose wheel collapse at BHX and remaining J32's at HUY

Hello, just a repsonse to two posts made

BHX nose wheel collpase, absolutely nobody was hurt, all crew and pax fine! :)

One J32 left at HUY, its Richard and Bryan's private aircraft and has been done up very nicely, the other J32 got sold to Yeti Airlines in Nepal, coming into operation soon.

Reading elsewhere that T3 are due two new (well new to them!) Saab 2000s, certainly one this month.

Any more on the Dash 8-300s that were talked about, or are those still 12-18mths ahead?

Also any more on new ABZ routes, SVG due to start next week.

Hotel Uniform Yankee 8th Aug 2007 14:51

I believe they expecting another 7 Saabs in total. I don't think they will going down the Dash 8 route.

Richard Taylor 8th Aug 2007 15:00

Many thanks HUY.

Where are they sourcing them from - are they ex-Crossair, or some other source?

mmeteesside 8th Aug 2007 15:59

What will they use 11 Saab's for? Is it to enable their European expansion? I suppose few of the domestic routes could really be upgraded to the 2000's??

airhumberside 8th Aug 2007 16:56

Richard Lake was the one who talked about Dash 8's, so have things changed since he gave his interview a couple of months ago?

Wellington Bomber 8th Aug 2007 20:42

Not a chance for another 7 SAABs, most sit around all day anyway, there is only so much charter work that is available, and also they now have to compete against Scot Airways and Air Southwest who have recently come off some scheduled routes

Hotel Uniform Yankee 8th Aug 2007 22:04

One J41 has just been converted for freight work. Maybe others will follow. The Saabs could then replace the J41 for the passenger work.

Serenity 9th Aug 2007 11:34

replacing J41`s for Saabs would be better for taking on the likes of Flybe and Scott, even the regular pax describe the J41 as a "nasty a/c"!!

airhumberside 9th Aug 2007 17:27

Saabs would be way too big for some T3's routes where a Jetstream 41 is too big already. T3's average load factor is around 50%

Single Spey 9th Aug 2007 18:29

I'm a regular pax and I think they are quite cute.

Did you ever fly in the J31 - much more fun having to climb over the main spar in the aisle.

Beats any airbus/boeing aluminum tube any day.

NickBarnes 9th Aug 2007 19:18

Was luckly enough to fly with Eastern on there old NWI-MAN route. and had no problems with it or the plane, altough that may have been helped with the amazing service on board, and i couldn't believe how clean the plane was:D

skiddyiom 10th Aug 2007 10:56

2 Saab's expected, one this month (around 20th). G-CERY and G-CERZ (c/n 008/042). One of them is ex-Blue One not sure about the other.

G-BUVC is flying with Blue Islands and 'VD might possibly go the same way. G-IJYS is being surveyed as we speak for an unidentified party.

tallaonehotel 10th Aug 2007 15:06

Skiddy,

You should see someone about that problem.... 'VD ahem?

Beside, you have escaped from the dark side and moved on to something better!.
Hope everything works out alright, looks like you ain't the only company getting more saabs!
