The third runway is at least 15yrs away on past building projections and it is highly likely not to go ahead at all.
Legislation was put in place last year to knock that stupidity on the head. Heathrow Runway 3 will be the first big project of national interest to go through under the new rules.

Politicians won't save Britain plc, why will they be able to save DTV or any other regional airport?

paarmo 13th Mar 2009 17:15

Dear Skippy
You have obviously not been involved in a major civil engineering project. Even IF the project was given the go ahead tomorrow it is 2 years for design,2 years for tendering and evictions and then 4 years for building.Another year for snagging and working up gives it 9 years at least. In the meantime ............perhaps Peel builds a new town.
PS this time difference is causing me all sorts of problems but I hope it is better for you Parsnip.

andrewmcharlton 13th Mar 2009 17:33

Not forgetting that when gormless Gordon is hoofed out of No 10 Darling David has vowed to scrap it anyway.

paarmo 13th Mar 2009 21:29

I don't think it is fair to call Gordon gormless. This suggests he had gorm in the first place which he obviously did not.
He is known as Mcavity the cat in political circles (google at will ) and his last answer re local airports (namely Teesside ) will not increase people's confidence in his leadership.

Peel's DTVA Master Plan or not.

One for the leagal eagles here, heard in a bar today.

If Peel can run the airfield for seven years and prove it cannot make a profit they supposedly can buy the remainder of the shares for one English pound and then do what they like with it.

Also they have to spend "X" amount of money in this time.

Views, thoughts away you go! I only heard it.

pug 14th Mar 2009 17:27

Sounds similar to something i heard recently about HUY. That North Lincs council stipulated an agreement that MAG cannot sell for another seven years.. Quite worrying for both airports if it turns out true.

paarmo 14th Mar 2009 22:49

I don't know which pubs you drink in but I definitely want a pint of whatever your informant was drinking.
Local Councils are stupid by definition but they are not that stupid and looking at how Peel have developed the airport they are not that clever to insert a clause like this into their contract.Bearing in mind that it is only in the last financial year that they have fallen into serious trouble it still gives 6 years on your informant's information for operating losses to be run up.
There are two chances of this clause existing.....fat and no.!

Anybody who wishes to try and find out could make a Freedom of Information request to: -

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council ([email protected])

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council ([email protected])

Darlington Borough Council ([email protected])

Middlesbrough Council ([email protected])

Hartlepool Borough Council ([email protected])

Each may levy a charge of up to £5, although some may not levy anything and they are all obliged to provide a response within 20 working days. Since they are not required to provide copy documents, just information only, I would suggest somebody with legal knowledge asking for precise bit of information that is required, as they may cite commercial confidentiality as a reason for not disclosing all requested information. This said, there have been successful challenges to this and the Information Commissioner's Office has subsequently ordered local authorities to release "sensitive" information.

pug 16th Mar 2009 13:54

Its official, announced on ryanair.com, DSA to be culled too..

DTVAirport 16th Mar 2009 15:12

How the f:mad:k does Mrs Quinn and Mr Lang remain under Peel employment? Are they thick or somet? If I was owner of a company, and my Managers were losing business left right and centre, I'd sack them without thinking twice?! Fair enough, the last two routes to be axed have been beyond their control, but looking at the bigger picture, they're to blame for the general state that MME finds itself in!

N707ZS 16th Mar 2009 16:22

The master plan!

skyman771 16th Mar 2009 16:32

DTVAirport

How the ** does Mrs Quinn and Mr Lang remain under Peel employment?
I understand your frustration,a review of the previous 1937 posts on this thread should present you with some clue. In doing so you would note that there are more persons to blame than the two reprobates that you name, they say "it takes two tango" however perhaps in this case it didn't !:E;)

paarmo 16th Mar 2009 17:01

In the local paper tonight Peel are quoted as still being behind a push for 3 million passengers by 2015.
Bearing in mind that less than 650,000 passed through the airport last year and they have lost 60% of last year's flights it is going to take some push.

HH6702 16th Mar 2009 18:46

Ryanair is this the end??

This is very sad for the airport and i feel that this is the end for FR at DTV

With Gerona and Alicante likely to be summer only routes what are chances of these routes stopping all together now in oct and NOT starting again for next summer??

i hope im wrong but i think that FR will stop using DTV altogether from Oct!!

Holiday brochures for summer 2010 will go on sale in the next few weeks hopefully this will bring some good news!!

airhumberside 16th Mar 2009 20:36

I suspect MME will be down to around HUY levels now (about 400,000 a year), with both airports having KL/T3 and FR at MME making up for the far smaller charter programme compared to HUY

jamier 16th Mar 2009 21:27

what incentives do you think the airport would give to a possible airline interested in setting up a base with 1 aircraft?

free landing fees?

not sure what else they could offer?

DTVAirport 16th Mar 2009 21:54

Someone once suggested to me that we should go for uncommon routes such as Moscow, Madrid, Frankfurt maybe? Etc etc, and that the airlines should be offered all fees free of charge, but a per pax charge be added, therefore if the pax don't materialise, then the airlines don't pay anything

jamier 16th Mar 2009 22:12

that would be a much better way to get an airline in, maybe wont get one in before winter 09 probably summer 2010. I do think we need to look to the future and hopefully get an airline in for winter 2010 or summer 2011, give the economy chance to recover and get people spending again!
