I wonder do Ryanair have unscheduled aircraft in other bases that they will use to launch a Madrid route as soon as the Madrid base is announced... ?

I'm genuinely surprised that EMA is in there in the launch routes. But it does seem that FR are earnestly putting big pressure on FlyBE and BACON at BHX, and with success it would appear.

So well doen to the EMA team and to FR for pumping life into EMA.

Ryanair just announced a Madrid Base on the news in Holland not on the Ryanair website yet!

Pray tell me why oh why would they wish to announce it in Holland, and not on their own website ? Not saying it won't happen in the fullness of time, but this doesn't ring true.

If you look at the RYANAIR route structure MAD has multiple routes. However if you want to make a booking you can only goto DUB.

Its true... 18th Base, 3 aircraft to be based in Madrid..see website..

I am very surprised of new MAD routes:

1) No route to London
2) No route to Italy (Ryanair second european market)
3) No route to Germany
4) No route to Morocco and Canary Island that from MAD would have been a great success!

It report that now they are 11 plane based in Spain: 7 in GRO and 3 in MAD. And the last one, where?

I thought GRO was moving to being an 8 aircraft base?

Ya I agree, there's something not quite right about the exclusion of Germany, Italy and London in todays announcement!!! But I wouldn't be too worried, I'd say it's only a matter of time before MAD is linked with all of RYR'S other bases. MOL is up to something because if alot of people using this thread/other ryanair related threads can be positive that a STN-MAD route would be a success and also that ANY routes from MAD to Morocco would be a success then the RYR management can surely see it too and they must have a reason for witholding them!:confused: :} :ok: :hmm:

"We welcome the development of facilities in Madrid Barajas airport to encourage low fares and competition which have won this new base for the Spanish capital."

Which facilities at Madrid are they referring to? Operationally I can't think of many airports (other than LHR) less suited to Ryanair-style operations.

It's probably because EZY and other low cost carriers already have, or have announced, flights to most of these destinations. Contrary to what you might think from all the bluster in the press, EZY and FR usually avoid competing directly with each other.

That is the current situation, but as I mentioned in my previous post, the intention is to allow customs clearance in Dublin; I don't understand the logistics of this, but that's what the press release said. What I do believe is that it offers enormous opportunities.

What I also believe is that the scale on which EI is currently thinking (12-14 aircraft) is unlikely to be big enough. The opportunities open to EI are also open to US carriers and despite (even because of) being in a bad financial situation, they're only too ready to add capacity onto t/a routes. To my mind, a combination of EI's experience (ETOPS, name) and Ryanair's experience of developing new routes could be an ideal mix. And this could still be done with FR having a minority shareholding. I certainly don't accept DM's view that EI can just go it alone; getting the best out of the new opportunities needs mass movement. I think FR and EI CAN work together.
