It appears the rumour of there being just one scheduled passenger flight per day was true, only one out and one in today
bb |
Sadly its not a rumour, a quick look at Ryanair's schedule will show a number of days throughout the week there is indeed only 1 flight out and one in.
What do the staff do in the 8 to 9 hours between handling a departure to ACE or suchlike and the time the same aircraft returns? |
Had a look at the overall top line accounts for Glasgow Prestwick Airport Ltd and operation was regularly making a profit up until 2008. Since then it has nosedived and is in the present sad state as many of us sadly know. The profit years coincided with the FR boom and other PAX carriers such as Flyglobespan, Germania, Transavia, Aer Arann and latterly Wizz. There was also the Seguro charter operation. Cargo was also on up and the way the airport was managed was far more effective and efficient than it is now. It very much looks like the Infratil management have been totally unable to respond to the challenges of the recession and of the competition just up the road at GLA & across the way at EDI. I still think there is a future for a limited PAX operation but the future relies on profit from other non PAX aviation related activities and it is interesting to note that at present activity at the airfield does seem to be on the up given more military and biz jet stopovers and increased training flights. Now increased activity is one thing but profit margins are another so if anyone can point me in the direction of the actual breakdown of the accounts i'd appreciate it. Only that way can we determine whether the airfield has a future or not based on the non PAX aviation activities. I would also agree with some that giving Landmark and Greer the heave ho is fraught with danger unless deals have been done behind the scene to either buy out both their operations or that PIK have managed to attract the customer base away from Landmark and Greer. I am not holding my breath on the present lot being that entrepreneurial but I am an eternal optimist. I really think we should be looking at an airfield model based on the likes of Kemble, Le Bourget, Lulea, etc.

Skipness u are so negative its unreal..why.not give the airport , new board and owners time?.?l Instead of saying it has no future? I think u and others get ur kicks from city airports who do not need to work hard for business.
|
Some of them do have to work hard because they are competing with loss making airports receiving state aid to keep their doors open.
|
12-30 windsock, again you have just responded by accusing people off all sorts of deranged things such as “getting kicks from speaking negatively” about Prestwick rather than accepting that people are in actual fact speaking realistically.
I do not know you and as far as I’m aware nor do any of the other negative nellies here so would you please stop taking the opinions of myself and others so personally. I struggle to describe the Scottish Governments bailout of Prestwick as a “loan” as that implies the money will be repaid. And as Una Due Tfc correctly pointed out, it can hardly be easy for the team up at Glasgow competing against arguably illegal state-aid being thrown at an airport 30miles away. As others have pointed out it is rather difficult to “leave politics out of the forum” as is it a government, a political party and politicians who own and run the airport. You have thus far told myself and others to stop posting “negatively” and stop posting “politics” in the Prestwick thread. If you remove these two subject categories from the Prestwick thread then there really isn’t anything worth discussing. Now if you want myself and others here to speak positively about Prestwick why don’t you give us a reason to? Give us your optimistic views of how the Scottish Government (oops, is that politics?!) are going to turn around the rather ill-fated fortunes of this airport. You seem rather positive about the airports future so what is giving you that positive vibe? |
Maybe im way off, however if the referendum hadn't been on the horizon then I doubt the Government would have bothered with PIK.
Much like the SNP didn't care about Fergusons shipbuilders fate when they awarded contracts to foreign companies in years gone by but were right in there trying to save them when they went into administration in the lead up to the referendum. Business and politics can't be separated, they are one and the same. |

Penguin , Im not taking it personally im just sticking up for my local airport and want to see it survive and improve over the next few years . I am no expert in how to turn the airports fortunes around , Unlike some on this page who seem to have the airport doomed already.. I will leave the new board and new owners to turn the airport around. Unlike you whom thinks it will be shutting soon , Im afraid to tell you it wont be ........
As for the loan , The SG stated it was a loan and will be repaid back.. I dont know how you can struggle with this , Its not rocket science , Maybe you should check a dictionary if your struggle and that will tell you what " a loan " means Broxi please leave referendum out of it. going with ur name you prob voted with ur fav football team whom are worth less than a pint of beer. |
lol , the money is being poured into a black hole , it will never be paid back , and well you know it !

If Prestwick is losing money then it cannot make money to repay the Scottish tax payer. Thus making said "loan" more comparable to a bailout. Broxi please leave referendum out of it. going with ur name you prob voted with ur fav football team whom are worth less than a pint of beer. |
Is opinion only allowed when it agrees with yours windsock? Would make for a very boring discussion board.
The decision by the Scottish Government to take over the running of such a loss making company, and to then continue to chuck money down the drain after it, makes no sense at all to me, other than to be a vote gainer. Sorry if that opinion hurts your feelings. |
Wind sock
This reply will probably get me banned from the PIK thread, but i give up and so do most on here.
I have no wish to be personal, you obviously mean well, but you are an idiot |
I cant believe there is absolutely nothing happening at PIK yet its creating multiple pointless posts. We'd be as well discussing Carlisle or DTV where there is more action....
|
The politicians bought the place and let civil servants run it. The Board of Directors are drawn from Transport Scotland. Iain Cochrane and Graham Sweenie have a track record of failure. Doesn't sound like a recipe for business success.
Windsock, please, tell us what is positive and growing at PIK. ANYTHING......! |
The red ink on the balance sheet
|
G-Awzk it is early days and peole need to give new owners time. Yeah things are.not good pr at the moment but you cant expect things to change over night. Patience.
As for facelookbovvered am i an idiot cos i disagree with ur negativity for the past 6 months ?. You stick.to commenting on ur other 50 airport forums that ur also negative in and please remain in newcastle , ur better off there Ok poxibear point taken Penguin - there are plenty of pointless comments on here.. Alot from yourself. Do you ever get bored being hegative ? Does anyvof the prestwick negative gang get bored ? Would closing preswick make yous all happy cos ot seems that way. Or would yous all move on to another struggling airport forum ? |
Just a simple question to wind-sock, do you actually work in the aviation industry, or are you just another spotter?
|
Would closing prestwick make yous all happy |
...the same could be said about your efforts although clearly not GLA shaped...
