Have heard rumblings that Landmark and possibly Greer are to be sent away and all FBO work to be taken over by PIK Handling? Sounds a bit short sighted if so. Anyone heard anything about this?

LTNman 3rd Nov 2014 14:54

So the FBO traffic could be nationalized by the Scottish state! Thin end of the wedge come to mind.

In the Strategic Vision there is the following comment under opportunities

Becoming a centre for general aviation and other aviation-related businesses
.

The only mention I can find as to how this is to be done is in the Key actions section where it says

Repositioning the Fixed Based Operator product and service delivery to maximise general aviation, tech stop, training, military and other aviation opportunities
its not clear whether this means physically moving their location or the sort of commercial "repositioning" suggested by G-AWZK

Word on the street is that both have been given 90 days notice to vacate
A recent visit to Greer revealed upgrades to some of the infrastructure - if this was a military building, you could almost guarantee closure shortly thereafter ! ;-)

Wasn't this tried a while back? We were told that in the small print was a clause where if movements fell below a certain level they would be given notice and all handling taken in house. Though of course given the business they're more than capable of shifting to GLA or EDI and taking years of networking and contacts with them!

Yep - been done before!

Sounds like another quality management decision. How many jobs will be lost by this?
:ugh:

Ceannairceach 5th Nov 2014 17:10

Confirmed in the local rag this evening; all handling to be taken in house at EGPK.

Sturgeon?

She signed and sealed Prestwick’s fate deceitfully before her party’s failed attempt at you know what.

PS, rather enjoyed reading that blog. It does paint a rather bleak picture of Prestwick but then again that is the reality.

12-30 Wind Sock 5th Nov 2014 19:19

Do certain people on here actually get their kicks from posting negative things about the airport ? and Why ?

Do certainn people actually get a thrill at people losing their jobs ?

Why are you so obsessed at wanting Prestwick airport to fail ? What has the airport done that warrants negativity ?

:*

Flying.Penguin 5th Nov 2014 19:33

If you are directing your comment at me then I can confirm that no I do not get "kicks from posting negative things about the airport". My kicks in life are not generated by posting anything on an internet forum. I fear for anyone who does get such "kicks" although there are a few around. :8

The reality is though that Prestwick is in a very "negative" situation and this has been compounded further by Ms Sturgeon. So instead of accusing people of speaking negatively, rather you should see it as myself and others speaking realistically.

It's easy to blame the Scottish government - but would any other owner be doing any better?

Surely more of the blame should lie at Infratil's door?

Well said, the purpose of an airport is to allow aircraft to take off and land should they wish to do so, ditto a passenger terminal is for processing passenger, but without flights there won't be passengers and without passenger there is no one to foot the running costs, except that in this far flung corner of Scotland the State has decided that it should stay open, so now the State must foot the bills.

I suspect that the state is now between a rock and a hard place, if they wish to keep it open they must keep pumping money in, to do that there has to be a plan, a vision, a strategy. If not then they cannot justify spending tax payers money to keep it open and closing it would likely result in some rather searching question on who authorised the purchase and why, it will come out of course eventually, by which time the people responsible for this folly will be drawing their ex ministerial pension funded by the tax payer for their incompetence.

Wind Sock, i don't think anyone wants to see the place close, but there comes a point when its has failed and i think it has, that to spend yet more money is just chucking it down the pan, they might as well just pay the staff to sit at home on full pay it would be cheaper and no less productive, think Blackpool

Flying.Penguin 5th Nov 2014 20:02

I don't thank any one organisation is to blame for Prestwick's predicament. I personally think it is more down the the reality of the market and that is central Scotland does not need three commercial passenger airports.

What the Scottish Government have done wrongly though is signed off the airports fortunes and kept it away from the public. The Scottish Government are now, I believe, moving forward with their strategy of a gradual shut-down, this strategy adopted by the masters in the East will help minimise the negative headlines. Slowly and quietly and nobody will notice seems to be the goal here. Prestwick is now a damage limitation exercise for the SNP, for their own benefit ofcourse. Not Prestwick's.

SWBKCB 5th Nov 2014 20:20

Supposedly the Scottish Government isn't spending any money, but loaning it to the airport.

12-30 Wind Sock 5th Nov 2014 21:06

I am not getting at only one person but a large number of people on here who seem to enjoy the fact that the airport is struggling.

Yes everyone knows the government has loaned Prestwick Airport the money. But please leave politics out of the forum eg. Sturgeon . SNP . Nobody is interested in politics in a forum like this.

If people are genuinely interested in prestwick airport then stop posting negative comments , Which has been happening over the past year.

Id like people on here to come up with some positive suggestions for the Airport and its future , and for the genuine People interested in the airport to get behind the new board and start again..

Things can only get better !:D

ScotsSLF 5th Nov 2014 21:13

I'd like to analyse the latest accounts to see the income / costs of the airfield's various activities. Can anyone point me in the direction of where these can actually be sourced?

CabinCrewe 5th Nov 2014 21:20

wind sock - you need to get a reality check - its all about politics and unfortunately all also about the negative. If neither was discussed, then this thread would drift to the bottom, which would you prefer?

Skipness One Echo 5th Nov 2014 23:39

The politics is that the state is propping up a failing/failed business in competition against two other profitable and solvent ones, with no realistic possibility of turning it around. A view of the "report" from last week shows how desperate things are, it was predicated on a postion pre Ryanair's semi-departure.

No sensible person now believes that PIK is a viable business going forward, if the taxpayer wasn't chucking wonga at it, it would close. It has no USP nowadays aside from main deck cargo and that's an industry on it's a***.
