XL Failure

Hi Mary

your words are sadly true

Xl has folded as per CAA anouncement this am

Why did the banks pull the plug?

Looking at the XL website, it seems that they might have recovered their loans by taking ownership of XL France and XL Germany - there is a press release on the Start: XL Airways Germany site which talks of "new shareholders" and these new shareholders are banks.

Absolutely gobsmacked. Genuinely thought the re-financing would come off and we would look forward to a busy winter and summer 2009.

Flown with some great guys 'n' gals over the years and I will miss you all. Hope we all manage to find jobs somewhere.

Good luck everyone.

The website is now closed, with an official statement.

RIP Excel.

I wish all the Crew the best, I know exactly how you feel I was with Zoom Canada it sucks to loose your job with no warning. Good Luck! ;)

I guess here in Orlando, the XL flight to London got pulled back to the gate and everyone told to get off. This is second hand information, but I believe it's accurate.

It appears that no-one is really safe. I guess it’s quite ironic that this announcement comes only a day after the anniversary of 911.
Very testing times for us all in aviation. Good luck to all those concerned.

miaguppy 12th Sep 2008 05:40

There are 40+ of us flight and cabin crew, hear in Cyprus. We could use a ride home...:ok:

hostiegirl 12th Sep 2008 05:42

May have been official on the 12th but believe me we all knew by 11pm last night so i lost my job on Sept 11th!

hostiegirl 12th Sep 2008 05:44

rotary 12th Sep 2008 05:52

Obviously bad news for everybody.
Have experienced it myself.
Were there any warning signs and did the management keep you informed?
From experience they probably did not.
Good luck to everyone.

Nasty time for us all, i`m going to miss all my friends at LGW, and hope my housemate is brought home soon from SFB.

I`ll miss you all guys.

Fingers crossed

Hey folks and to all at XL. The aviation industry goes in cycles all the time, you're not the first and won't be the last. I know it's not much comfort now but I'm sure it won't be long before new work is found for everyone. We've all been through it in one form or another. Best of luck to all of you from a little airline in the Southwest of England!!x

ETOPS 12th Sep 2008 06:26

There's no joy in MAN today - lots of good people looking at very difficult end to the year. Mrs ETOPS was XL cabin crew up until recently so knows how hard this will hit...................

Some operators may get a boost from XLs demise so some hiring good be a lifeline?

rebellion 12th Sep 2008 06:29

Good Luck to all XL folk, I hope those who are stranded get home OK.

The media vultures are already in place. Watch out!

Banzai Eagle 12th Sep 2008 06:42

Sure I heard of an F/O who was with Silverjet, went to Zoom, went to XL.
If so kiss of death might apply

Lot of XL Staff I know are ex Dans / Air Europe and or have suffered unemployment in other Airlines. They are also top folk and highly regarded
This is a massive blow to the UK Airline Industry :\
