Airliners.net states that Lufthansa order Embraer 195s for Lufthansa Regional...

Flybe + CityJet + Lufthansa Regional = A pretty big regional airline company !!!!!

As mentioned before, why on earth would Lufthansa sell its regional airline to a rival effectively inviting them into their backyard? Come on be realistic. Lufthansa are one of the most profitable airlines in the world, they don't have to sell anything.
Can not see AF buying flybe, guess they could and keep operating the flybe brand as to not annoy to many British people. Thats a scary thought to be honest, hope it doesn't happen.

Did anyone notice the release that the schedule from LCY is being cut back?

The info was in a press release on their punctuality:

In summary:

LCY EDI down to 6 from 7
LCY Dundee down to 3 from 4, but from 2011 will feature the F50.
LCY JER is cancelled

Also, the LCY AMS route is down to 7 from 9, but not mentioned in the release.

I was booked on a cancelled flight, hence the trawl through the schedule.

I guess they are cutting back to same money, having been on very empty RJ's from AMS to LCY during the late morning myself.

Real shame about JER ending after the summer timetable - is it perhaps just becoming seasonal? I'm surprised they can't make it work given the only other option is to LGW.

Seems to be really variable loads on other flights. I could live with only 6x daily to EDI. The current timetable is somewhat eccentric, with lots of spare capacity on weekdays and almost no service at weekend...perhaps understandably, given the market and the airport opening hours, but BA provides a better schedule on Saturday and Sunday. On a weekday There are two EDI-LCY flights close together in the middle of the afternoon...one at about 3.30pm on a Do328 which is usually always rammed, and one an hour earlier on an RJ usually with only a handful on board. No complaints from me as it means more seating space but it is no wonder they are losing millions.

Indeed alot of knashing of teeth, very frequent visits to the loo. Listening to some recent conversations in BBia (overhearing)of course. Lots frightened.
A new Groundy is also creating quite a stir and wont be around for long in these parts.

I think the writing has been on the wall for LCY-JER for years. VG started it up with a pretty good 3xdaily service with a JER based a/c. Sadly the yields gathered didn't justify the base and it dropped to the once daily day stopping service that we currently have.

Given the low load factor (although of course not indicative of yield, 20 pax/day can't be great), the costs associated with a crew daystopping in a hotel, the 6-7 hours a day the a/c is on the ground in JER not making any money, fact it is only useful for pax spending the day in JER, I can't see how its been sustained for the past few years.

Its not that JER business pax aren't interested in an LCY service; I think they would be. However what they are interested in is keeping their BA Gold Cards, well, Gold. If BA were to introduce a 2 or 3xdaily LCY service with a E175 (maybe at the expense of an LGW rotation or two), I feel it would do quite well.

Finnair is possibly the 2nd airline...

Won't be the only one. I'd say there's a few around swords business campus who won't be around for long. Once the new CEO gets to the bottom of it, those who have had it so cushy for so long, lining their own pockets, following their own agenda, can expect the guillotine to come crashing down just as quickly as it did for the old CEO...

Would another airline consider picking up the LCY-JER route, perhaps in conjunction with a stop in GCI? Perhaps Eastern, ASW, BACF or Blue Islands?

Surely with the Channel Islands strong finance industries some sort of LCY route could be sustained?

I think its been proven that anything under a 50-seater can not make money at LCY. In fact seem to remember reading that LCY actively discourage planes of that size so doubt any of the operators mentioned will operate Jersey.

Aircraft with less than 50 seats do work at LCY. They just have their niches. Cityjet/ScotAirways do quite well with the Dornier 328 on the EDI/DND likewise Sun Air to BLL. LCY is very much a niche airport and it is only because of such small aircraft, this airport ever came into existence.

Wel if LCY doesn't like less than 50 seaters, I guess they'll be writing to BA to tell them to stop operating their JFK route then I as I believe the A318s operating the service are configured to 32 passengers only.

Its just what I remember reading when Eastern Airways tried operating a few routes on their jetstreams.

F50 all the way to Dundee is going to be a slow drone.

The Eastern route to NCL never did catch on. I dispatched that flight many times with outbound passenger numbers in single digits and the inbound often empty!
What was odd is that when it was announced the route was to end, the loads shot up but it was all too late.
