I think someone mentioned Onur Air A300

That's going to need a high loader too, and if experience at DUB a while back is anything to go by, you're not going to enjoy the experience. We used to get 2 or 3 Onur's on a Sunday, and we counted ourselves VERY lucky if the floor worked to move the bins.

Bins. Ahhh joy. Most weeks, it was a case of offload, empty the bins, then put the outbound bags into the bins and load them, so double handling the bags, and bingo carding on the ramp. Made a total nonsense of the turnround time. One year we did get them to send in 10 empty bins to help with the preparation, but they soon got recalled.

Then there was the day when I opened up the back, expecting to find 8 bins of bags in there and it was empty. Closed it up, moved the hiloader to the front, opened that to find 3 cargo pallets with the bags netted on them. That royally screwed the system, had to send the (small) crew off to find cargo dollies, which were like hen's teeth at that time of the morning, then go and find bag dollies, (even more rare), to transfer the bags from the cargo pallets to the dollies so they could be moved to the inbound belts, as the ramp into the hall is too narrow for cargo dollies. That alone took over an hour, then we had to load it. There was 4 of us on the crew, so it took a while!

You're in for a fun (NOT) summer by the sound of it.:E

They already have one, or two, high loaders at BRS, as I believe the Aer Lingus A320's are containerised, but they do look a bit ancient so perhaps this is a new one.

crackling jet 5th May 2006 13:49

Something NEW !,considering its painted in a servicair colour scheme that has been replaced twice since that one, no. its been worked to death at another base and has been sent to us to die.

Vasto1M 5th May 2006 15:58

Excellent, one of the most profitable UK stations for Penuaille Servisair and yet again they’re left to work with everyone else’s cast offs.

Irish Steve 5th May 2006 21:45

Sounds about par for the course

Sounds about right. A while back, DUB needed a second main deck, so a veritable pile of scrap was shipped in from a UK station, at phenomenal cost. It was so bad, it had to be lined up about 9" offset from the door before the jacks were put down, and then when they were, it would tilt that much, and if you got it right, there was a chance it would be aligned. That's aligned laterally, by this stage it wasn't level, so if one edge of the pallet went over the gap nicely, the other edge was either 6 to 9 inches or more above or below the cill, depending on if it was an off load or on load. That tended to cause problems if the pallet hadn't been built too well, an edge dropping that far, or the pallet flexing that much can cause embarrassing consequences!!!

I spent the next 6 months reporting it at least once a week because the overload alarm was going off because the main deck and lift deck went out of alignment whenever a pallet over about a tonne was put on the thing, but nothing was done. It was always a case of "it's working, and we have to have it on the ramp", so the defects were deferred in a way that was typical of so much at DUB.

The 2 A320 loaders may well be narrow ones for the 320, if they're anything like the one we had at DUB, they are a pain, as each bin has to be turned manually to get it on to the loader from the dolly, which is not a lot of fun, and it's all too easy for non experienced people (most of them<g>) to end up dropping a bin on the floor.

1 Hell of a storm last night, ramp closed for approx 2hrs then shut again after 30 mins, lightning must of hit terminal building as well as several skylights got blown open, delays to FR,EZY and FCA by the looks of things.
Also been told there are some wide bodies coming in soon for another rugby airlift.

Liverpool is to gain another three rotations (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) from/to Dublin at the expense of Bristol from Monday 19th June.

Bristol keeps the Tuesday/Thursday (FR502/503) rotation.

flyerboy 11th May 2006 18:51

Think you will find that on M-W-F Bristol will still have 4 flights but will have FR512/513 departing at 2205 instead of FR502/503 at 1050

Up until 19th June Bristol has five flights every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

From 19th June there will be four flights on those days listed above (bringing it in line with Tuesday and Thursday) with the second arrival/departure of the day (FR502/503) re-routeing to Liverpool from Dublin.

MudRat_Y2K 18th May 2006 17:29

Going to be a very busy morning & night this Saturday at Bristol with the Heineken Cup Final airlift.
A quick glance at the mayfly and I have noted the following extra aircraft.

4 X 737-300
1 X 737-400
7 X 737-800
1 X 757-200
1 X 767-200
1 X A321
1 X A300-600
4 X MD82
1 X F100
1 X ATR42
1 X EMB145
4 X DR38

Many of the airline codes I don’t even recognise but they include Excel, Ryanair, Aer Lingus, Monarch and a variety of other carriers.
Around 3900 seats are available arriving from Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Prestwick, Kerry & Biarritz.

See http://apron.bristolairport.com/ for mayfly.

Good luck BRS you are going to need it!

redfield 18th May 2006 18:33

Mudrat: Those "strange codes" are amongst others: Slovak Airways (F100 and 733), CSA Airlines (733), Air Dubrovnik (M83 back and forth), Swiftair (a 9Q- registered MD83 I think), Landsflug (Do38 - note NOT Islandsflug), and Farnair Europe (ATR72). As you say, Excel, Ryanair, Lingus and Monarch are all in and out in the AM and again in the PM, there's also a Futura 738 and a Flyjet 767 early doors, with Flyjet returning in the PM/Sunday AM with a 757. The CSA and one of the MD83's are day-stopping at BRS, and all in all there are 26 rugby departures sched. between 1930 Sat and 0250 Sunday morning, on top of the usual program. AND I'M ON SHIFT!!!!!!! :{

redfield 18th May 2006 18:34

And stop wishing us good luck! It'll be fine.....

WATABENCH 18th May 2006 21:06

Blimey that is flippin busy!
Looks very certain for FCA's SFB and POP will come back to Feb for start instead of May, also rumour of more longhaul routes to be added due to the excellent sales on the original 3 routes, How long have we all said put long haul on from BRS and it will sell brilliantly, seems to me FCA may have found a little gold mine in Lulsgate:ok:

BYCREWBOY 19th May 2006 05:29

What is the current situation regarding the airport’s master plan? The draft plan and the airport website state that the final plan would be published and submitted to government in “early 2006”.

This would be followed by a planning application in the spring of 2006.

The draft master plan was clear that time is of the essence if the terminal extension and other buildings that require planning permission are to be built within the proposed timescale.

It would seem then that there is slippage in the timescale already.

Perhaps there is more behind-the-scenes manoeuvring than meets the eye and this is holding things up. It is clear that the Stop Bristol Airport Expansion group, or more accurately a set of disparate groups, will never be persuaded that any expansion is justified, so it would be understandable for the airport to be lobbying organisations and even notable individuals who do not have a dogmatic agenda from which they will not be swayed.

I saw the local BBC News today in which some residents of Bath held a public meeting (it did not look well attended though) to complain that aircraft noise is blighting their lives. I live roughly midway between Bath and the airport, almost under the usual approach for 27, and cannot say that the aircraft bother my wife or me much, except perhaps on low cloud days when 09 is in use and we are sometimes aware of departing aircraft noise.

I have a feeling that anyone who is opposed to air travel growth in the area is now jumping on the bandwagon from afar.

terrier21 19th May 2006 21:55

Let them carry on MV. As a now user instead of a worker for Brs i still want to see massive expansion.

Also good look to everyone who I left behind up there for the forth coming season and beyond you are the people who really make brs the sucess it is!!

Watch for Thomson expansion from CWL instead of BRS thanks to your FCA via MAN flights, which will porbably lose the company money :ouch:
