Laffin here; because if you knew anything about Babs at all, you would not use her as an example to throw credibility on your shameful cause at all. She was an extremely succesful and capable lady that knew what business was all about. She has 'bigger balls' than most men I know and I'm certain the whole lot of you would have 'been kicked down the road' well before now, if she had been managing the situation.
Maybe Victor Meldrews missus might be a better choice for your cause. Anyone remember her name?

Ok chaps the dispute is over, Rod E has calmed the waters and common sense has prevailed.
I'd like to thank the Daily Mail and the Daily Express for their
extremely honest, unbiased and well informed reporting during this dispute.

Regarding the problem of self-check-in with baggage, I do know that SAS in Terminal 3 allows this - well, sort of. You do the basic check-in and seat selection at a machine, and then go to a dedicated check-in desk to hand over your bag in exchange for a tag/receipt and coding.

Self Check-In
2 schools of thought - LH has self-check in with baggage in FRA among other locations. Huge bits of kit, but they scan and weigh the bag and spit out a tag if it's within limits (weight, number of pieces, dimensions, depending on the routing.
The other way is to check in via machine and use the quick drop-off. BA has that at LHR and NZ in AKL. Way to go

Now that this one is sorted out is there any chance of baggage loaders turning up,tug drivers turning up, crew buses turning up
and stands being available at T4/
Can anyone in virgin tell us if they suffer these 1970 s militant work practices at LHR?

Paxing All Over The World
Self Check in.
LH - I used this at MUC but for internal flights only. They were planning to expand it (this was 1999).
BA - I have used this internal in the UK and long haul at T4 and, with the fast bag drop there it was fine. I was going to use it coming back from the US in March but I was on the early morning flight and the machines, "... are switched on by London and they don't do that till later." I queued and was seen in a reasonable time. When I left the counter, I checked the machines again and they were now on - this was about 07:00.
The problem will be that a goodly number of people do not know what actions to take at the auto machine. I suggest that the machines are easy to use and pretty much idiot proof but they LIKE the fact that they arrive at the counter and just abandon any sense of responsibility! They LIKE having someone to shout at.
I agree that auto check in has to be the way to go and will steadily increase as computer savvy passengers increase. In other words, as the old ones stop travelling!

That's interesting if not slightly ironic. In the finance and banking industry it's a truism that the public like to use ATMs and other automatic transaction machines because it is thought people don't want to do those transactions with other people - they prefer the faceless anonymity of the transaction rather than human interaction.
