Aurigny may be bought by Government

Just heard that the States of Guernsey( our Government) are proposing to buy Aurigny. The proposal will be discussed tomorrow 14th May in the States meeting.

They will then be in the dubious position of operating an airline and also controlling the route licensing.

I wonder how this will effect the other Airlines operating into GCI.

Cool

Would a lawyer like to express an opinion as to whether the EU laws - government subsidy/competition requirements require a closer look?

Wink

I think you will find the islands are somehow outside the Euro zone. Even though part of the Uk.
Hence no VAT etc.

It's been purchased today for £5m by the States (Government) today.

And yes we are outside the EU thats why we can get duty free on flights too and from UK.

Possible that independant licensing body will be set up as well.

Channel Islands....

Oscar Duece, the CI are not part of the UK - in organizational terms we 'report' direct to HM the Q....not Tory Bliar...

In case you are interested the position is set out here

We do have some links to the EU vis a vis the CAP and the Atomic Energy community....but I guess we are free to spend our money on subsidising whom we want....unless and until Kinnock gets his hands on landing slots across the EU.....
