Cool BY 762 to be based at LBA!

Due to apparent high demand at the begining of Summer 2003 season Britannia are to replace the B757 with a B762 for the months of May & June at Leeds/Bradford!!
Also MYT are to base a B757 during the S2003 season for the first time as they have been using a Skyservice A320 in previous years.

Based A/C at LBA for S2003:

1x BY 762 (May/June) 1x BY 757 therafter
1x MYT 757
4x Jet2 B733's
1x KLM F100
4x BMI EM4/EM3's
2x EZE J41's
1x AEU 733/73G (part of the week op on behalf of PlanetAir)

Crikey! - Thomson / Britannia increasing capacity at LBA. Whatever next?

ACE - It is the first time that MYT have put a B757 on in the summer, although they did dabble with a A321 a couple of years ago. They have been basing a B757 for the last few winters now.

Just wondering how the above will affect the HUY IT's operated by the above two carriers, normally on 'W' patterns out of LBA. Anyone know further? Generally there's about 10 weekly MYT/BAL operated flights.

Would sure be nice to see a few more MYT 752 movements instead of the leased 320s, and it seems ages since we last saw a 76 in HUY!

Anyone from Brit or Myt care to enlighten us further....?

That's interesting, where is this 762 going to come from?

Last plan I saw was:

1 based MAN
1 based NCL
2 based BHX (1 between 19/06-31/07)
1 based GLA (the second BHX one between 19/06 and 31/07).

So who is losing out in May / June? Manchester perhaps?

Cool

With ACE's list and the BMI LHR F100 and the BE BHD CRJ and a visiting Bizjet that makes all 17 stands occupied! Looks like LBA will have to extend the apron and build some more stands!

I was wondering how Newcastle was going to cope this summer aswell:
BA: 757 (LHR) 737 (LGW)
BE: DH8 (BHD)
T3: 3x J41 (ABZ, BHX and SOU)
SN: AR8 (BRU)
UK: 100 (AMS)
EZY: 3x 737
AF: 146 (CDG)

surely we will get another rotation to DUB aswell as more to SVG although at the minute still looks like the one midday flight.

im not sure on what chaters are coming up here but with 12 stands already in use its going to be a squeeze.

Localiser Green: LBA's B762 is a BHX aircraft and the 757 is going from LBA to BHX for the first 2 months of the season.

NCL's B762 is now going to CWL and NCL to get B763! (from where I can't remember)

Hope this helps.

Question

ACE,

Thanks for the info. Is the CWL 762 / NCL 763 also just for May and June or for the whole season?

From what I've heard CWL will be 762 all summer, as will be the NCL 757 and 763.

Continuing to fly off the original thread but things at NCL are going to be interesting this summer.

With all the charters and schedules the airport authority are having problems finding enough check in desks, particularly on a saturday when over 25 charters and 15 schedules are programmed. In addition porters and terminal duty officers are being laid off.

Something bad is happening up north with BA pulling out of the regions (how long will NCL/BRS last with easy on the scene?) and staff lay offs left right and centre. I think easy have saved this brilliant airport.

And finally MD Airlines are not 'basing' an aircraft here in S2003, they are only operating 4 flights per week with crew based elsewhere and the aircraft either 'W'ing or positioning in.

Although the airport authority has gotten rid of many porters etc, companies like Servisair and Groundstar are recruiting heavily for the start of the summer season.

Personally, I think BA pulling out will be a great thing for the northeast in the long run. I can see Flybe (and EZY) expanding in the near future.

As for the charters, there's not really that much more capacity than there has been in recent years. There has been a gap ever since AMM removed their based unit a few years ago, MYT has reduced from a 757 to 321 and although JMC are basing a 757 its not operating as many flights as last season, so i'm not surprised BAL have taken the steps they have.

I imagine it will be chaos airside this summer with the common departure lounge for domestic and international departures. What with the "comprehensive and exciting range of airside retailing and catering facilities" that they are building not being available until Summer 2004 and all.

Thumbs up Confirmed East Midlands aircraft bases?

Does anybody know the exact aircraft the charter airlines are lining up for East Midlands this summer?

Cheers.

Sorry off thread again but John MYT haven’t had a B757 at NCL for a long time been A320’s for years with the occasional B757 in the winter. This year will be an increase in seats with an A320 and a A321 instead of the 2 x A320’s!
Again glad to see Leeds on the up tho.

Carrying on with the subject of NCL I was interested to hear the other day from a reliable airport source that the authority have a wish list of destinations, both charter and scheduled they would like to see introduced in the future. Interesting to see but most fit in very well with easyJets network and some have been looked at before.

1. ATH
2. NCE
3. PMI
4. MIL
5. GVA
6. FRA
7. CPH
8. AGP

In addition to these scheduled 'wished for' flights the airport would like to see charter flights introduced to more of North Africa and flights across the pond to the Caribbean!

Interesting to see what happens and if easys plans go ahead by the end of summer 2004 5 737's will be based and what new destinations do they have in store?

Back to the original topic.

Any idea if good sales will lead to an increased present at LBA from TUI in '04, as planning should be being done now.

cheers

Fandango - I wouldn't place too much credence in any plans for S04 - There's too many brown trousers about S03 for them to be worrying about next year yet. There is a chance that (any) one of the big 4 may not make it through the year unless bookings pick up a bit sharpish

Good point! I just hope MyTravel make it through as they have increased their presence at LBA year on year. If they went, we'd really feel it.

The increase in capacity from Thomo's is a major shock as it is very much against previous years, where it has been a reduced presence. that said, very welcome!

regards

Sorry to deviate form the topic again...

Go-arounder,
Acutally, MYT did have a 757 based at Newcastle alongside the 320 last summer for the busiest holiday period.

G-PIDS during the easter holidays http://www.airliners.net/open.file/229601/M/
G-CCMY during the summer holidays http://www.airliners.net/open.file/263176/M/

Granted the 757 coverage didn't last the whole of the summer season, but thats still a reduction in capacity.

Sorry once again for being off thread but I have to say…….

Johnwalton
AIH/MYT did not have any based B757 in Newcastle last year, what you saw were either ‘W’ legs or aircraft filling in for sick Canadian Airbus’s.
For example the Easter B757’s were a short series of ‘W’ flights twice a week for four weeks, this year you will see DC10’s and B763 so a slight increase in pax’s sum what!
The summer visits where all ‘W’s or for broken A320’s. You will still see MYT ‘W’ this year.

Last winter MYT based an A320, summer 2 x A320’s and this winter another A320.

So I think you’ll find replacing a A320 with a A321 will most certainly increase pax’s!
