By all accounts, they haven't actually gone bust as such. It would appear that the AOC got pulled which in turn stopped the show.

ECY says "the UK Civil Aviation Authorities have decided to suspend the airlines UK AOC. This action means that Euroceltic Airways are not in a position to operate the PSC schedules for which we are contracted to, as from of this moment."

RTE News says "However, the UK Civil Aviation Authority has told RTÉ News that it has not revoked or suspended the operating licence of Euroceltic."

I thought that Euroceltic was given the contract from Aer Lingus to operate some of their routes (Dublin-Sligo ect)???? If so shouldnt Aer Lingus give the contract to someone else probably Aer arran??

"The airline informed the Dept of Transport by letter yesterday that it was withdrawing its services from Sligo, Donegal and Waterford. " So basicly its closing down because isnt that most or all of the routes they offer?

Thanks!

Euroceltic operated the PSO routes on behalf of the Irish Goverment/EU.

Aer Lingus had the contact but when they stopped operating the Fokker 50 aircraft they had no aircraft that would operate on the routes and did not apply for a new contract, Aer Arann then applied instead and operated the routes.

On the last round of applications Aer Arann, Euroceltic and NewAir applied for the PSO contract. Aer Arann got three, Euroceltic two and NewAir none (although NewAir ended up operating all flights for Euroceltic).

Let's just hope that Aer Arran gets to pick up the Waterford/Luton route; otherwise, this will prove to be yet another of Luton's 'flash in the pan' (cf. CiaoFly) airline operations.

Having been employed by Euroceltic since before the airline was awarded its AOC, now would be a good opportunity to post some facts rather than mere conjecture as the airline has ceased operating.

The AOC was withdrawn on Tuesday of last week as the CAA were unhappy at the airline`s continual use of wet leased aircraft. This coupled with the airline`s lack of management structure and with a none too flattering audit carried out back in October led the present management to terminate the airline`s operations. All of Newair`s aircraft have returned to Denmark whilst our own 2 aircraft - one is still in SXL awaiting salvaging and the other is in BLL - having undergone a C check it is AOG at present - so its future is undetermined.

Contrary to all sorts of rumours - the airline employed about 35 people - all of whom are no doubt actively looking for employment so good luck to them all.

The airline was looking to obtain an Irish AOC - they had sourced
a small company operating a PA-31 and the aim was to buy this airline with the view of operating Fokker 50s purchased from Aer Lingus on its AOC.This as we now know came to nothing.
There had been rumours of Euroceltic either merging with or buying outright Newair of Denmark - but they had greater debts than first realised.

So there you have it - as a reminder to `Potter` - there were those employed at LTN as well as WAT - don`t they deserve
some sort of recognition or at the very least some luck when it comes to job hunting?

Wink

Actually, one of those OY registered F 50`s is still in Dublin and will not be going anywhere in a hurry as it has an Aer Rianta truck parked in front of it`s nose, not to mention a police car parked behind it, just in case they try that sneaky reverse manoeuver. Profits must be down on the duty free if Aer Rianta are resorting to tactics like that !! Good luck with the job hunting !

st patrick - thanks for that info..looks like it won`t be going very far for a while!

also as a postscript to my previous posting..the airline has not gone bust and not gone into receivership....it has just called it a day as far as aviation is concerned....and just stick to ships instead!

Well, as I hear it, those who were laid off and told they would get three months' pay have not been paid. Euroceltic claim they have gone into voluntary liquidation - how can they do that if employees have not been paid?

Comments like that which i deleted are not required and derogatory to someones career Thanks Hogg

Well, that's what I am told - what about the poor sods who have to continue flying with this person? Where are the CAA? I guess they are just too busy gearing up for privatisation to worry about flight safety and the like! Get a grip, CAA - you are supposed to weed out people who are past their 'sell by date'
Anybody know about this? PS:- this was not his only accident of a similar nature - it was certainly the second with Euroceltic!
If any of this is incorrect, please tell us

fish

All the pilots were given three months` notice in the middle of November last year - as and when they get their money I`m not sure but as a matter of interest all Cabin and ground based personnel were given NO notice at all - and have only just been paid for last month!!

Apparently only three of the Pilots were paid for January, and surprise!!, the MD! and Flight Ops Director!

The other three were not as they had started training with another outfit and according to the self proclaimed purse keeper (FOD) had " Broken their contracts", even though there was no a/c and no work for them.. what a C***

It's amazing how quickly peoples loyalties change, but aviation is a small world and one day these prats may need to call in a few favours.

Rumour has it the old MD, is larging it in the warmer climes, no news on the FOD, I gather he was well liked by the crews, pity he did not stick up for them when they needed it most;

Especially as they rallied support for him after his incident at Sligo, ok, he may have not been the handling pilot, but it was his arrogance that keep Captain Useless in the air.

Pieces of silver?

Good luck to the staff inc the ops lot....
