UNMIN Handling

This post is titled UNMIN Handling, or perhaps it should be titled UNMIN Mishandling.

I'd like to know your feelings on escorting UNMIN's. My company sends one employee for upto three UNMIN's/YP's, and two if there are any more. If a child were to make an accusation of 'mishandling' by the escorting agent, immediate suspension and a police investigation would immediately follo. So should we, as an industry, be demanding no single member of staff should be required to escort a child, unescorted?

As a precaution I will always avoid travelling alone in an elevator with a child I'm escorting, riding an empty transit train with them, or allowing them to go to the bathroom. In situations where a child has 'demanded' they need to use the bathroom, I have had another airport worker wait outside the bathroom with me for them to return.

I'd be interested to hear your views and your company's policys on this matter.

Working for a UK Charter Airline, we no longer carry unmins.
Believe it was due to the high insurance costs but not sure.
