Ryan in the Netherlands

Heard whispers that Ryanair wanted more flights out of Eindhoven but Eindhoven doesn't want the noise!!! So they are now talking to Maastricht (again) with a view to flying from there ( about 45mins from EHEH by car ) . Anyone in the know on this one?

Rumour also has it that FR are currently talking to Niederrhein Airport (ex RAF Laarbruch), between Monchengladbach and Venlo spot on the Dutch / German border, to open up routes to there once the airport becomes operational.

Maastricht' residents are even more noise sensitive than Eindhoven,s. There has been enormous pressure to even close the airport. Witness XP parcels from moons ago, leaving.
I heard that even the local flying club doing circuits was attracting venom, so what chance a vibrant Ryanair being given the go ahead? It also sits inbetween Charleroi & Cologne, so would there be enough traffic for three low cost hubs?

It's a pity Rotterdam has rejected them. They did the same to ej a few years ago on slightly dubious grounds. Transavia have increased flights from both, but the pax are Dutch. The great influx of foreign pax was deemed unsavory for the airport's reputation. They lose money and close. Great for the reputation!

Sorry, but that is wrong. Most of the pressure against Maastricht Aachen Airport comes from Belgian ŽenvionmentalŽ groupes. A few years ago Maastricht wanted an East-West runway, but this was successfully blocked by very fierce opposition from Belgium. This was the major factor of XP parcel express to abaondon Maastricht.

The net result of this Belgian ŽenvironmentalŽ opposition is that Liege has been able to grow and grow and grow.....

Actually you are both right - Wanula and Rat - But now that the idea of a larger cross runway has been abandoned and even the small cross runway will be closed next month , EHBK still has a BIG problem with the local NIMBYS who bought cheap housing near to an airport and yet don't like a bit of noise. Bearing in mind that the Transavia B738s are MUCH different than the old B732s. Somehow compromise doesn't seem to figure with these people - and how many fly from EHBK on holiday I wonder?!!!

In the late 1980's Virgin used to fill thier Viscount to Maastricht, close to the boarders of quite a number of countries, surprised it has not developed with the lo-co's?

The problem with FR at Eindhoven is that FR wants the right to use the B737-200 for flights to Eindhoven and in addition increase flights out of Eindhoven. However, airport management won't allow FR to use the 737-200 (noise) and the number of slots for Eindhoven is limited (though still sufficient). They now play the usualy FR game (agree with us or we leave).

FR has also, according to some rumours, started negociations with Groningen/Eelde Airport about a service.
