Question New Routes out of DUB..?

Greetings all;

Has anyone any info on any of the following....

US Airways looking at services into DUB starting next summer (Me thinks this strange, considering the companies financial state)

Turkish looking at schedule service to DUB

A Transatlantic carrier looking at CRK-BOS, heard it might be US Airways (?)

FR going into Spain from DUB

Hey Mate,

Dont know about US airways but United are currently setting up shop in DUB and SNN as Delta are after a long battle over the SNN stopover pulling out shortly...So the rumour goes anyway. I think Turkish are interested in operating summer charters and FR are due to hit spain anyway so wouldnt surprise me if you heard words in that direction.
As for ORK-BOS...that was meant to happen the year before last by Evergreen but then they went belly up. I doubt it will happen though, in theory it would be good but the runway isnt big enough for a wide body to the states and flights would still be hampered by the SNN stopover! So its a no go!

Hope this helps answer your questions!

dead right on ORK stop, can only fly direct to ORK and NOC if it's charter. However, since 747 were flying ORK-CWL for the European Rugby Cup final, I can't see a problem in ORK-SNN?

Delta was supposed to hve pulled out at the end of the Summer season, so I would expect them either (a) to tough it out, given that the current minister is much more likely to do something useful than his predecessor or, (b), to pull out just for the Winter, which they really should have done, but should have announced long before now.

The forthcoming EU Transport ministers' meeting on the 5 Dec will have quite a bearing on what happens and Commr. Loyola is anxious to aim for a Common Transatlantic Aviation Area (CTAA), so I really don't think the Irish situation will last too long.

Even if DL pulls out, I'd be surprised to see either US or UA coming in.

I would expect TK to go year round scheduled, since there's more than enough Turkish charter airlines to do Summer flights.

Have also heard talk of a well known Asian carrier looking closely at DUB. Word is that there is a lot of emphasis in Irish govt circles on developing Asian markets, diversifying away from just the US; they are anxious to reel in an Asian "big hitter".

US Airways are also said to be looking at summer-only Glasgow-US services, to start in May. US Airways execs apparently visited last week and were shown around the airport. See this thread:

http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...threadid=73631

Maybe they are thinking of a combined GLA/DUB service?

It does seem a bit funny their looking at new transatlantic routes when they have such financial problems.

There was a report in one of the sunday newspapers that US Air were thinking of a Shannon/Dublin flight next summer but nothing has being confirmed yet.The summer loads on most of the Irish-USA flights are generally high even with the shannon stop- over.

Wink New Services at Dublin

US Airways confirmed last week that they will be launching two daily flights to Ireland from May 2003. The first is a Boeing 767-200 from PHL-DUB-PHL and the second also a Boeing 767-200 PHL-SNN-PHL, with 23 seats in Envoy Class and 176 in Coach. US Airways also said that they hope to serve the routes year-round once market conditions and aircraft availability allow.

OK, i'm putting this question here on purpose because i want to keep it out of the whole maelstrom of the rumours and news forum.. so..

What is the perspective in DUB (or news or fact) on BA pulling out of dub/lba:ncl:sou:brs?

Are Aer Arann replacing above or going in competition from above or not going anywhere near above

Are Aer Lingus starting a CPT/JNB service: Would they really start ncl again?

Are SQ or CX weighing in?

Are 5Q going to be replaced or will they limp on 'till pso is up for renewal?

I really would be surprised if BA gave up DUB-BRS because whenever I take it, whether earlier this year with the Dash 8 or nowadays with the Embraer Jet, the flights have been 100% full, while my fare has been up there with the stars in comparison to Ryanair (who have poor times on this route). So they must be getting some good revenue from it too.

I would be suprised if BA pulled off NCL-DUB, theyve recently swapped to the J41 from the Dashes, but they increased frequencies at the same time, and I hear that load factors are solid. I think Aer Arann will be opening up in direct competition on this route, from Jan 6th. The OAG timetables seem to confirm this.

BA confirmed that routes to Dublin from Southampton, Leeds Bradford and Newcastle are to be dropped from March 2003.

However Flyebe will announce tomorrow Wednesday 18 December what it calls "a major expansion" out of Southampton. The new services announced tomorrow will start from March 2003, so I guess Flybe may look at Dublin after the BA announcement, as for LBA it is a brave airline that tries to take on Ryanair, and with Jet2 the new low cost carrier starting in the new year based out of LBA I dont think they will be ready for fight with Ryanair yet......

I also see Aer Arann Express today have confirmed their new schedule from Dublin to Newcastle starting on 6 Jan operating on a ATR42 twice daily and rising to three times daily on a ATR72 from May, they also confirmed that delivery of their fifth ATR42 which I understand is due this week, I also understand that the aircraft is machine 161 which is an ex Ryanair machine EI-BYO.....

Interesting to read that Willie Walsh has become the first Aer Lingus CEO to take the stopover issue on, proposing that the government takes a more pro-active line on the issue, rather than waiting for the edict to come from BRU. Of course, politically speaking, that the most likely.

More interestingly, from the point of view of this thread, he said that if the stopover rule were changed, EI could introduce six more US routes and double pax to 2m pa.

Given his success in growing European routes, it must be a pretty plausible claim. Let's hope SB continues to show his fine performance and runs with this issue, once and for all . . .

BA out of NCL

Lets remember that the NCL to DUB was an increase in frequency but a drop on capacity from something like 150 to 120..I think!
If BA were doing so well then surely they would of made up that 30 with an extra flight

Hey Martin max, just to answer a few of your questions,

EI wont be doing JNB/CPT as the managment wanted the pilots to operate the flight with minimum crew. Great route on paper, shame it didnt come about.

Ba seems to be adament on pulling the LBA,NCL routes which the took over from EI two or so years ago which seems a shame and I really dont see EI going back on them as the UK Provincials have always been loss making for the company and continue to do so! Itll prob pass to RE for service and FR for none!!!

I never heard about CX moving in but the SQ rumours are very much the same as the EK ones, they will and then they wont and then a maybe!!! Unfortunatly i think these carriers will become very much a "beleive it when it happens" case!

As for 5Q, Id really like to see them do something with themselves but I really dont see much of a future there, the new CEO really hasnt been given a chance and is possibly in way too much over his head in the C**P that was left when he moved in! But fingers crossed on that one!

Hope this is helpful for you!
Merry Christmas everyone!!!
