Palmair BOH - DUB
full page Palmair Holidays ad in tonights Southampton Daily Echo has a small box in bottom rh corner saying "Dublin from £29 one way......departing every sat from 12 June to 28 Aug.....return flight late Sunday night" ( hope the Mods don't consider this an "Ad" but just a statement of facts to answer the questions raised...)

Well Well Well...
Rubbing our hands together in glee.
We don't care why Palmair are doing this. We don't give a monkey's to be honest. They could sell BOH-DUB till the cows come home but they will never get any customers.
No fear. Palmair's fate is much like their operation from BOH - Spain. It no longer happens.

WOW Ryanair1 sounds like someone isn't happy that another airline is stepping on your territory.
I think 99% of people would rather fly Palmair than Ryanair too be honest.
Good Luck to them but remember Ryanair1 they are selling seats for what would be a positioning sector. The aircraft is doing charters in DUB. CSA do the same out of DUB.

The flights are all AEU flight numbers and will operated for one of the smaller local tour operators in DUB.

I have just booked my flights for a nice weekend in DUB in July. I must say it was a refreshing experience to book a flight and at the end of the booking process the cost was as quoted at the selection stage. No additional taxes or booking fees. etc etc.
So there Ryanair1. I am one lost customer at least.

There's plenty of attractive sunny destinations that Palmair could fly to, without being bothered by Ryanair or other competitors.
To name a few :
Pula, Croatia
Alghero or Olbia, Sardinia
Catania or Palermo, Sicily
Figari or Ajaccio or Calvi or Bastia, Corsica
Mersa Matrouh, Mediterranean Egypt
Taba, Egyptian Read Sea
Kefalonia, Greece
Oujda, Northern Morocco
Bourgas, Bulgaria
and so on..
I would also offer some of the already-served niche destinations (Monastir, Dubrovnik, Brescia..) from other Southern airports, other than Exeter or Jersey...like Manston, Newquay, Bristol, Southend and why not, Southampton..
I think also a summer connection from MSE, NQY, SEN to Palma, could also prove popular...during the peak holiday season.

Palmair have added extra flights this summer to Palma and Tenerife on Tuesday s from mid July from Bournemouth
The season of day trips that have re started this summer finish mid July so they have an aircraft available now to operate these extra services
There winter programme is due out next month but would appear to be much reduced this winter , there aircraft is still being offered for sale from Oct 10 so i wonder if they might take some seats out on Thomson flights instead to cover there winter programme ?

The Palmair aircraft that is leased from Astraeus is not now up for lease or sale this winter and that Palmair will be operating this aircraft from Bournemouth for the winter season
They are due to release there programme next week , they were waiting on the Ryanair programme to be given before they made any decisions on services from Bournemouth

I wonder what their plan will be?
Will they do package deals to find some winter sun, or do short breaks to find some snow, maybe both.
Or even throw in some city day trips????
At least it's some good news for an otherwise quiet BOH winter.
Let's wait & see.

Surely waiting so late in the season to release w10/11 when all your competitors are thinking and planning already for w11/12 is commercially irresponsible? Al ot of customers have probably booked aternatives by now. Only a small hard core palmair fanbase will be waiting for their brochure. shows you the arrogance of the company in my mind.

Bad News For Airport
Palmair Considers Cancelling Winter Flights from Bournemouth
Aug 25, 2010 Elaine Findlay
Bournemouth Airport faces a bleak time as airline Palmair considers adopting Ryanair's economic strategy of suspending all flights over the winter months
Just one month after Ryanair announced it would not be offering flights from Bournemouth Airport over the coming winter, airline Palmair, in a statement read on BBC Radio Solent on Wednesday August 25, 2010, says it is considering adopting the same economic strategy as Ryanair and not offering a winter flying schedule.
Winter Flying Suspension Due to Recession Says Palmair
Palmair’s reasons for considering cancelling flights during November, December and January are, centred on the economics of the current recession. Passenger numbers last winter were low and are expected to be even lower this winter because of the high price of the Euro and a weakened confidence in the airline industry since the volcanic ash situation earlier in the year.
If Palmair does cancel its winter flying, the move could be an economic blow for Bournemouth International Airport, coming as it does just two months after the grand opening of its £45 million new departures terminal. However, when asked about his views on the Palmair considerations, in an interview broadcast on BBC Radio Solent on August 25, 2010, Bournemouth Airport’s commercial director, Stephen Turner, adopted a bullish attitude.
Bournemouth Seeking Other Operators for Lapland and Ski Flights
He said he was not worried about how airport coping economically during the winter months because Ryanair had suspended flights for November and December only and are expected back in January (although Ryanair’s website says January flights are suspended too). Turner also said that they are speaking to other operators with a view to laying on Lapland flights in the run up to Christmas as well as winter flights to ski destinations.
Palmair is the airline operated by Bournemouth travel agency Bath Travel and although it only has one Boeing 737 in its fleet, it was voted the world’s best airline for customer service in 2003 and third best airline in 2008. The airline specialises in short haul flights to Mediterranean destinations such as Majorca, Portugal and Spain as well as North African destinations such as Tenerife and Madeira.
Palmair Tells Winter Holiday Makers to Book Flights Elsewhere
Prospective travellers phoning the airline to enquire about holidays in the winter months are currently being advised to book them through other tour operators. This coupled with the fact that no Palmair winter brochure has been published shows the considerations are very real and it seems only a matter of time before formal confirmation of the cancelling of winter flights by Palmair from Bournemouth International Airport is announced.

Maybe Bath Travel should look at chartering the Titan 737, that sits all day everyday at BOH doing not a lot.
They could run quite a good winter programme, with none of the risks and costs of operating their own aircraft.
130 nice leather seats, good legroom.
BOH are now bound to give all involved a good deal, just to keep the traffic flow through the terminal.

Sam: Palmair don't own their current aircraft (G-PJPJ). It is actually chartered from Astreus (GINFO Search Results | Aircraft Register | Safety Regulation). All 'Palmair' flights are officially AEU flight numbers.
I'm not sure about the particulars of the lease, and PJ seems to be exclusively used by Palmair. However I'm fairly certain the crew are employed by Palmair/Bath Travel. A pretty expensive way to do it.
Whatever PR BOH spout, the loss of Palmair throughout the winter is hugely significant. The loss of FR and Palmair combined with the normal winter drop-off in traffic is going to leave the place deserted. Also; BOH shows only 11 scheduled departures tomorrow, which is the height of the summer: Its not very far until you hit zero.
A daily BE MAN, and a few ski/lapland charters will make for a bit of a sorry sight I think.
