''Laudamotion'' is already a 2-year old name, nothing else than the re-naming of long-time established biz jet operator ''Amira Air''. The advantage here lies in the fact that Laudamotion has an AOC, whereas Nikki no longer has one. I suppose the trademark will remain ''Nikki'', and the applause will carry that little script ''operated by Laudamotion''.

laudamotion already exists - its a bizjet operation high end - guess that's why he could take over easily as he has the paperwork already in-situ to operate?

Lauda, who offered to take on nearly all of Niki’s 1,000 employees, said he had secured 15 aircraft and planned to bring them back into operation by the end of March, focusing on tourist destinations in Turkey, Greece and Spain.

Niki planes have been granted around 1,700 slots, or about 0.8 percent of available slots in Austria, for the summer season which begins late March, according to the coordinating authority Slots Austria.

Lauda said earlier he would look to work with an operating partner such as Thomas Cook for functions previously provided by Air Berlin, such as ticket sales, crew planning and marketing.

”Laudamotion has asked us for operational support services to enable Niki’s flight operations to restart as quickly as possible,“ a Thomas Cook spokesman said. ”We are prepared to start such discussions shortly.”

i think in austria and elsewhere folk are and will remain loyal to the Niki brand

i have flown them both as lauda air and Niki and was well impressed

Thomas Cook's response doesn't seem that enthusiastic. I would have thought that by this time they would have already sourced replacements for any Air Berlin planes they used. I wonder who's backing him?

seems a perfectly reasonable response to me surely?

It may be that something was lost in translation, but there seems more urgency about Laudamotion (as soon as possible) than TCs (prepared to start shortly). They could have said that they were eager to commence discussions at the earliest opportunity.

I think you guys are mixing up two things. The quote:

Lauda said earlier he would look to work with an operating partner such
as Thomas Cook for functions previously provided by Air Berlin, such as ticket sales, crew planning and marketing.
...is about operational support by Thomas Cook (the airline), not about purchasing capacity on Laudamotion planes by Thomas Cook (the tour operator). Thomas Cook/Condor provides operational support to customers and that is what Laudamotion needs as previously airberlin took care of these matters.

i dont know where some of you think Lauda is being morphed into some new Thomas Cook austria/condor - -- where have you deduced that from ?

all Lauda has stated is and thomas cook respond to is the fact that Lauda is seeking from them some operational and ticketing support - that's it

For marketing purposes Laudamotion to rebrand simply as Lauda.

So we had -
Lauda Air
Lauda Air Italy Spa
Lauda Air became a wholly owned subsidiary of Austrian Airlines Group and the label, "Lauda Air" continued to operate charter flights within the Group.
Lauda Air then withdrew from the long-haul charter market
Lauda Air was officially merged into Austrian Airlines
Lauda Air brand was retired
Niki Lauda founder of Lauda Air, acquired the former Aero Lloyd operation in 2003
NIKI or flyNiki commenced
NIKI merged with Air Berlin
NIKI collapsed under failure of AB
Former owner Niki Lauda expressed interest in repurchasing the airline named after him.
Niki Lauda's other company Laudamotion beat IAG in the bid for Niki, and he would take over the company.
Ryanair then agreed to purchase a majority stake in Laudamotion with planes from NIKI being operated by Laudamotion.
Ryanair now owning 100% taking the minority stake in the airline held by Niki Lauda.

Laudamotion then re-brands as Lauda

Not sure if Niki has a place on the Board, or in any way is still connected with the new Lauda
