Only November stats available just now so the impact of the festive period isn't known yet. Certainly the car park has always had a fair number of cars in it when I have been up there (and I went up at weekends so no distortion from the Stobart staff parking there).

Carlisle used to have cargo flights up to Dounreay with nuclear materials at one stage. BAe146's I seem to remember? (Can't remember which carrier...)

Newcastle, Teeside, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Blackpool and Manchester are all easier to get to from Carlisle than PIK! (According to Google driving times)

The planned for Lake District tourist (hoped for )effect was mentioned many moons ago in the early planning stage by myself..
So ,you are a couple from Essex who enjoy walking in the hills...so you book a flight from Southend to Carlisle( on certain days),Ehhmm then what?
excess baggage for boots, tents, equipment inc. gas canisters etc.,dog!, then actually getting to the the lakes..hire car?...public transport..not really..try it..
It would be a nightmare(and expensive)..sorry it doesn’t compute.
try driving...5 hours and having your car which is needed in this fantastic part of England.
Belfast and Dublin possibly,Southend..nope.
ps..airport would make a great logistics site for Stobarts though!

Agree with some of this but not about the need for a car in the Lake District. Been a number of times from Brum and always taken the train. This includes camping. Public transport is decent in the Lake District

Try using Traveline website to determine a public transport route from Carlisle Airport to say Keswick. Yes if you come by train via Windemere or Penrith, bus connections are good (but expensive). BTW, I couldn't find the Airport on the Traveline website, and there's no public transport stops shown on google earth.

Does anyone know whats happening this year in terms of parking at the airport? The website states that the car park is free until 21st December 2019.. which has now passed. Do they plan to start charging from today? Likewise is the bus service still due to continue?
