Thoughts go out to all TC Crew and Staff.
Was at Laker when I went through my first redundancy. Now XX years later and after more mergers and collapses than I've had hot dinners i'm on Airline 10 (i think)
Heard the Laker collapse on the radio, aircraft in the air etc. I've often felt I was cursed when it came to Airlines. Never worked for TC but did work for Airtours / My Travel - enough said!
One thing to mention is every time I came out a better person - all TC staff please hang onto that thought.

Technical question:
Will an airline “slot into” the vacant flight places that Thomas Cook has left?

(PS Golly some of those flight prices have Er... skyrocketed.....)

If an aircraft is leased, I assume it does not belong to the company that operates it. As such if the operating company goes into administration, do the airports have the right to impound the aircraft (for none payment of fees), as effectively it belongs to the leasing company not the company that has gone into administration (and probably also ows the leasing company money a well.). The leasing company will probably want to lease it to someone else as quickly as possible.

My understanding is that the debt stays with the a/c - certainly heard of a/c being held (or the threat of) after several changes of owners/registrations.

Wow, if this is the case, the leasing companies could have some very large bills to pay before they get their aircraft back, I hope they have insurance against company administration.

SmartLynx pilots were signing fuel receipts billed to Thomas Cook not SmartLynx and I believe EU261 was TCX's to take care of too.

Regarding aircraft being held that is why the announcement of TCX going under was not made until all aircraft were on their way back to the UK so that the aircraft would not be impounded abroad.

Repatriation effort isn’t off to the best of starts, the Atlas 744 operating MAN MCO is making itself dizzy just off the Irish coast.

A very emotional tribute. Truly feels like part of the country has gone, not a single person in the U.K. didn’t know who Thomas Cook were, will miss the high street stores, will miss seeing the aircraft, will miss seeing the cheesy TV ads.

What has shocked me is some of the news articles i have read today, including claims that Thomas Cook had to sell 3 million holidays per year just to service the interest on its £1.7bn debts. I have no idea whether that is true or not. And of course not forgetting the 500+ high street shops.

I know nothing about running a business, but this seemed like an impossible problem.

Possibly. Seems like a highly dynamic situation, perhaps an airframe on the right side of the pond has become available to do this run? Divert to Shannon/Dublin, wait to be reassigned elsewhere.

Or obviously something as mundane as a technical issue.

Will OY-VKF be leaving JFK in the foreseeable? It seems to be TCX Scandinavia, who are still trading according to another post, so will this be a case of the aircraft not being impounded?

Did a couple of big circuits out in the Atlantic before turning back on reciprocal. So my money's on Tech and into Shannon.
Stuff happens!
