It was more recent than that as Dole-‘London’ Cambridge operates in 2012 and Ryanair came after that. I think they ran it year round then seasonally for a year or two, but it is a surprise it’s starting in winter.

TCX L/H
Is the TCX Long haul program this year being operated by TCX’s A/C or by another operator?

I have put this post on the Stansted forum but it affects all London airport's. A well known sports travel company is unable to operate a charter flight to Samara on Saturday for the England v Sweden football match due to no night slots been available from any London airport.. The flight is being operated from East Midlands. A sign of things to come?

Personally I think the decision should have been LHR plus one of LGW or STN. But LHR was probably the right political call for the SE runway. If LGW had been chosen I don’t think LHR would ever have gotten the runway it needs. I think LGW has a better chance of getting a second runway so it can “compete” with LHR, other London airports, MAN and maybe even Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam, et al.

Ad-hoc charters, corporate traffic and freight flights will be pushed out of the top 4 London Airports to help capacity growth for the higher yield scheduled traffic, and to deliver on airport's noise obligations to government; either use quieter aircraft and/or to cut night flights.. This might help with context:

AirportWatch DfT confirms numbers of night flights ? till 2022 ? at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted will not be cut

The main problem Flitefone is that all the London airport's have used up all the available night slots so as you say no ad hoc charters. As regards freight flights not so sure about those being pushed out, must have my Amazon parcel before I have ordered it!

Night noise quotas need to be strictly adhered to and for ad-hoc extra night movements LHR is definitely out of the question. I suspect Gatwick, Stansted and Luton's night
quotas for this summer have been fully allocated to their scheduled traffic. In the case of Luton I understand that ad-hoc biz jets during the night period are not accepted.
So the alternative is to look elsewhere
