General question regarding staff if I may.

Qatar flight deck crew obviously operate their own aircraft with BA cabin crew on board.

What happens to the BA flight deck crew who would have been operating the flights that Qatar are
operating, are they positioned back into the BA staff pool?

The whole reason that QR aircraft are operating is that BA Cabin Crew are on strike therefore QR Cabin Crew operate their own aircraft under a wet lease agreement.

I guess the Flight Deck will be enjoying their time off in this BBQ weather.

Qatar's A7-ADB operating BA1324 LHR-NCL tomorrow
I thought NCL was a Eurofleet route and the QR aircraft were to cover Mixedfleet routes ?

The Qatar aircraft have been operating a variety of routes - Eurofleet and Mixed Fleet. Every day they seem to be operating different routes so I don't know the logic behind how Network Ops are assigning the aircraft. I did think that perhaps Eurofleet were being prioritised for the weekend charters but if Newcastle is being operated by Qatar tomorrow, then who knows?

One flew LHR Brussels yesterday with 23 passengers on, all living it up in some style according to Simon Calder.

Sounds like BA have taken him to task, his article now says "around 100 passengers", which sounds a rather more likely load:

The local rubber neckers were creaming themselves into the fences as one of the aircraft sent was in Al Maha colours - only to find out it had been repainted recently in Shannon back to the standard QR scheme

Hmm. As one of those at Heathrow yesterday, I can only guess there was a second universe in play. When I arrived, early morning-ish the first of the Qatar flights departed. leaving me to say "Bah Humbug" or something similar as I didn't have time to get my camera out. At this time, there was myself and a lady taking photos. And it stayed that way throughout most of the morning. By the time the number of happy snappers had grown to the usual Sunday morning tally, most of the Qatari aircraft had left Heathrow and were somewhere in Europe. So, nothing to see there then. Oh yes, and not a single person within 50 yards of a fence.

I guess it's not penny pinching but BA, rightly or wrongly, wanting to prove a point that strike action has consequences.

These strikes have ended a seven year period of no industrial action at BA. Historically, that is a long period of time. Indeed, BA had a volatile period of industrial relations between 2003-2010.

I know no-one wants to go over the 2010 strikes again, but they were a watershed moment in terms of BA facing down a strike rather than continuing to walk an IR tightrope.

It also has to be said that it should be no surprise to anyone that BA would withdraw staff travel, not least certain individuals on other forums who went on strike in 2010, were salivating at the prospect of industrial action on Mixed Fleet and couldn't wait to egg them on.

In the terminal there is also trouble as the announcement of the loss of 80 + Duty Managers positions. It is the first time that these redundancies will only receive the government guidelines pay off, unlike a year's pay which to date has been the norm!

Plus the outsourcing of the NCL BA business park base probably via a 'TUPE'. I am not sure about the last comment (2010 strikers) legacy cabin crew know only to well that they are next on the list !

So the BA strike will continue. Will the lease of QR aircraft continue as well?

Ironic that at least some of the Qatar operated flights have been handing out free snacks and drinks on board.

Whole is just completely unnecessary BA should be negotiating and working on its labour relations, not bringing in aircraft from the Middle East. What way to run an airline !!!
