A skeleton staff have been kept on by the administrators apparantly. A couple of firemen, an ATC engineer and refueler. Presumably to keep alive some of the grandfather rights that the airport was running on and possibly allowing the Offshore Heli's to pick up operations. Fingers crossed anyway.

According to today's Blackpool Gazette, £21 million is owing. However over £19 million of this figure is due to other Balfour Beatty companies?.
Smell a rat anyone?
Airport?s failure cost £21m - Blackpool Gazette

There is a very large element of creative accounting possible in inter-company charges. For example if the main company send consultants to work on behalf of the airport, they can charge them pretty much what they want
A debt to the airport is an asset to Balfout Beatty plc which helps maintain the share price at a time when things are difficult for them.
My question would be why the council, as minority shareholders, were not kept in the picture regarding this debt to the main company.

Oh yes the council - They I suspect did not want to know - To busy spending the £6 million contingency fund, from the sale of the airport.
If the airport is stripped of assets, it is not reopening.
not only the light bulbs but they could also strip the runway to the point it
could never be used again. And they have the equipment to do it as well.

I keep reading press reports that Blackpool are 500,000 a year then reducing to 260,000 in 2013 and blaming that fact.
No mention of FR leaving the airport because of the ADF - That's when BLK lost it's buzz and started going downhill.
Might as well shut the book, the last chapter is finished. Because of a few million quid!! A pittance by BB standards,

With the council being minority shareholders , will they be forced to cough up a portion to BB , I mean if that was the case , it's sheer madness , somebody should be asking some questions of the BB management , why this was allowed to go on , if 19 mil is owed to BB , does that mean the airport was in the black when they bought it , and was let to run down for a reason. Going to be a lot of stuff sold if the need to find £21 million, plus no doubt the liquidators costs
...
2nd half of next year or early 2016 let's see the planning applications spring up
, I really hope I'm wrong ... What is this country coming too, anything and everything sold for a quick profit , no thought of long term investment.

Good post take-off and asks a good question about BBs intentions.
Blackpool Airport has history and should still be open, if not as a commercial airport, then for GA operations.
Blackpool Council have overseen a shambles.

Overseen a shambles alright , it's called Blackpool !
Going by tonight's gazette would seem everything that's can be sold will be sold to pay the debts off , so can quite see what will be left, would have thought if they wanted to get money back to pay debts off then the land should be sold , as it is , cannot see what future it will have, I mean what things can they not sell, radar equipment , I imagine the terminal will be completely mothballed now , as they said to realise the assets , surely not the runway lights ....would the tower get stripped out , ?
What would any potential buyer get , feel for those that are left trying to run a business

Ernst Lancs,
You mention "Ryanair leaving because of the ADF". Was that ADF as in navigational equipment? I ask because I don't know why they stopped flying to EGNH.

ADF is the Airport Development Fee which is a £10 (per adult) fee levied on all departing passengers. Ryanair objected to the imposition of this fee and withdrew their services within days of this fee being imposed.

TSR2,
Thanks, yes I remember reading about that now. Just one further question, was it Balfour-Beatty who imposed it or the previous airport owners?
I can't say I blame Ryanair for leaving, a great shame as the airport seemed to be very busy prior to the imposition of the charges.

Yes, to the best of my knowledge it was Balfour Beatty who imposed the
'Development' Fee.
'Development' Fee.
What gets me it was an outbound tax only - With free car parking was the ADF any use at all?
Balfour Beatty seems to have gone out of their way to alienate FR and later LS - makes one wonder why.

With land prices the way they are, its not hard to see why Balfour are planning.
They will be after government money to put new roads in like The Peel Group, who have just been given £6m of public money up at DTV.
Peel have become experts at it with their lobbying inside westminster. They spout a load of hot air about making thousands of jobs in a master plan and voila they are given a few million quid to put the drains in for the new houses.
They sicken off most of the operators until nobody uses the airport, and then its perfect for house building just like Sheffield and DTV.

Looking at the news on BB and the West Ham Utd Stadium, Looks like it should have been them to go from EGNH and not Jet2 !!!!!
"Balfour Beatty — hit by a string of calamitous profit warnings and without a chief executive — won the deal to convert the stadium with a bid of £154 million.
But according to the industry website Construction Enquirer, Balfour has been pushing for around £200 million to complete the deal due to the technical complexity of the contract in a series of meetings with the client.
Sources told the Enquirer that builder Balfour Beatty is pushing for up to £50 million more to complete the job."
BB in need of cash injection by the looks of it
