Manchester Airport is not perfect but is a dream compared with somewhere like Heathrow. The problem i find though is that over the last year or so it has gone backwards. I used to find it efficient whereas now it is getting scruffy and the infrastructure is failing(escalators etc as already mentioned). What i really can't stand though is the arrogance of the management. How can you reduce the pay of the security staff whilst giving Miurhead £260,000 P.A.? It totally stinks. By the way i don't work for MAPLC.. .On a different note i like Manchester as a place, i couldn't give a damn about Bill Bryson, and it's crime rate is lower than that of London and Birmingham, and yes that does take into account their higher populations.

I do....that's why I could never stand the Beatles!! . .. .Seriously, though, point taken and many apologies to any Beatles fans I may have offended.. .. .I can't help wondering though....how would John Lennon a lifelong anti-globalist, supporter of the environment and all-round tree-hugger have felt about having an airport (of all things) named after him??

Why has everyone suddenly got a downer on EGCC?? These are tough times for many in aviation and EGCC are finding it as hard as everyone else. . .The airport is still fundamentally the place that was so highly thought of 10-15 years ago, it has not turned into some sort of ogre. Are they a victim of their own success and therefore we can now slag them off!!!. .I do feel that management have been spectacularly dumb of late especially with their fatcat wage rise planned at the same time as attempting cost cutting.. .As far as staff adjustments, although I have not been following developments too closely it does seem to make business sense to match security arrangements with traffic levels. There are times when the baggage handling systems ( a reasonable indicator of passenger throughput) are processing at flat out and complete idle all within the same day!!! So the idea that there needs to be the same levels of security throughout peak and off peak periods maybe economically flawed. As I understand it management accept the need for extremely high levels of security at all times, but it is the passenger security processing capacity that should be modified according to load and therein lies some of the problem. . .. .I feel its legacy of being almost a local authority department has allowed uneconomic business practices to become the norm and now MAPLC are now trying to apply new millenium processes to systems still wedded to the 1970’s.. .But I think overall it is still a good airport and one that puts many others to shame.. .. .(I do detect a certain amount of hypocrisy about symparthies for security staff, I recall threads, certainly in the past 12 months, that derided security staff/arrangements all over the place with EGCC being no exception!!!). .. . . .. .(I will now sit behind a dozen sandbags with a hard hat on to protect myself from the tirade of responses from people who are probably fundamental anti Man U fans. Hate Man U - hate EGCC- hate Manchester the place!! There may be a pattern here??)

Thumbs up

Sir, your final paragraph has, I believe, hit the nail fairly and squarely on the head!. .. .Clearly hatred and jealousy of Gods Own Football Team is being sublimed into a hatred for, and a gloating desire to see the vengeance of the Gods wreaked upon, poor old Ringway.. .. .For shame!!. .. .(Any more room behind those sandbags??)

Poetpilot, could'nt agree with you more.. .As for the airport, it gets worse and worse. Nothing seems to work whether its the car park barriers (not going to start on that one again !),. .travelators etc etc. I understand they're about to start digging up the 'patchwork' apron at the end of 'C' pier as taxiway N (?) is subsiding.. .Add to that the prospect of Servisairs baggage handlers and tug crews going on strike (allegedly!), well, think it's a place to avoid.

Having gripes about any airport is fine because there are no perfect ones, but this is not just about the airport but about having a go at anything to do with Manchester. All cities in the world have good and bad points and there are airports that have some facilities/staff etc that are better than Manch and some that dont.THIS IS ABOUT IGNORANCE AND ARROGANCE AND OUTDATED STEREOTYPICAL VIEWS ABOUT THE NORTH!. .And by the way i wasnt born in the North West.
