Circular contrails over NE England today
Not sure which forum to put this on but here goes...
At lunchtime today there were many circular contrails over NE England, probably between Leeds and Darlington. Just intrigued as to what this could be?

Were they circular or elongated ovoid?
Circular tracks are actually harder for the radar processor ( constant slight Doppler shift ) and the airframe compared to a racetrack pattern with two parallel straight tracks and 180 deg turns at each end.
One aircraft that does like circular tracks is the E-6 Mercury, as those keep the VLF antenna dangling vertically down.
