Airline Start up Required Positions

The FAA requires new Part 121 arlines to have 5 positions--Ops, Chief Pilot, Safety, Maint. and Inspector. I would like to know if there are similar requirements in the EU specifically the UK?

Definitey. UK AOC holders needs to have specified and appropriate post holders such as chief pilot, chief steward, maintenance and so on.

Hopefully 'Chief Steward' was 't-i-c' - they normally self-appoint

Your references are here

For an AOC holder, such persons are:
• The nominated post holders required by OPS 1.175(i) or JAR-OPS 3.175(i); and
• Those persons required by Part M M.A.706(c) and (d).
