Sympathy and respect to all those Globespan employees who have unfortunately lost their jobs today. I wish them all the luck with finding employment ASAP.
Also, being one of the pilots that will fly these rescue fare flights, I find the price quite surprising. The load factors from EDI aren't too bad for those spanish routes so I was expecting the fare to come in around 40-50 euros!

So sorry to hear of whats happened Good luck to all of you. I really have to admit i had hope they weren't lieing and they were going to make it through.
Its such a shame they were Scotlands largest airline and looked to be going from strength to strength for a couple of years. I think the biggest problem was ever allowing them to stay owned by one profit hungry man. Democracy with shareholders always works better to private dictators
Glasgow airport is actually humped now they were they're second largest holiday airline providing the only regular orlando serivce. Such a shame for the airport also i think its going to have many problems unless jet2 move in

Sorry to see many of you out a job. I would just like to wish you good luck for the future.
Not entirely correct.
Both Thomas Cook and Thomson offer more capacity from Glasgow than what Globespan did. Both Thomas Cook and Thomson offer regular direct flights to Orlando. Maybe Virgin will not add more flights to Glasgow to pick-up the capacity lost by Globespan.

I know that for those employed by Globespan and associated companies this is a bum thing to happen. I don't want to do the usual "condolences to those affected" becase not only do I not personally know anyone affected, but also because this is people losing jobs, not the death of relatives. However....
While the recession began 12 months ago, they don't last forever. This means it can't be that long before the economy is back into growth mode, which means punters paying more for flights, and airlines more likely to be hiring
Globespan had quite a strong and useful niche by being one of the major carriers from Scotland to sunshine destinations in Europe. There will always be a demand by the good people of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen to fly off to a sunny Mediterranean beach. This means that at least some of the routes should get re-established in the next few months. This of course means that pilots, cabin crew and ground staff will all be needed at GLA, EDI and ABZ.
It'll be a rough few months, but jobs will come back.
Head up, chin up, chest out and walk on with your pride intact

GSM Scot you may well be right as I left june last year and the plan then was to sell all 3, however I can only imagine the amount of equity with it is probably nill and likely in a negative state either way it does not really matter now.

Reading the Herald today it mentioned that E-Clear, the credit card clearing company, had with held £35Million! From GSM, Their own money. Im led to think then that this put them into Admin.
What I want someone to tell me though is - How can a company with hold anothers finance? The money is GSM's so why was it being with held?
It looks very very bleak but theres nothing to say GSM can't pull through with more cash - bigger miricales have happened! (Im a very optimistic person, but it is of course doubtful)
Constructive thoughts and answers only please.

hope the people at e-clear are happy now that were all out of a job.
hope there is a puplic investagtion into E-clear to find out why so many airline that used them have gone bust
hopefully the administrator can get the money and maybe re start operations and find a new buyer
but the scottish avation seen does look bleak scotlands airline gone and Alba ground handling gone just like that
