Yes we are on a cruise flight on the 12th March, the Glasgow details make more sense to me, believe the seating on 787 is better than 767.

G-OBYG is currently operating out of BHX to Faro after flying to Antalya last night - is it high loads or subbing for a tech aircraft?

Not yet, it's just that the aircraft are being painted into TUI colours when planes are being delivered or need painting. Same is happening with Jetairfly, TUIfly and TUIfly Nordic whose names have also not changed yet

Thomson and First Choice brands to be gone by Nov 2017
Makes you wonder why all the money has been spent on the First Choice holidays rebranding just to wind it down within a couple of years. I could only guess they had a number of scenarios that thus brand will be retained as a sub brand in the UK, that it was planned to be sold off or that the Thomson and First Choice holidays brands were to be kept. I do agree that the overseas airport and resort operations can work well under a single brand/umberella. Perhaps even the airlines too for ease of movement of the fleet. However, the sale points for the TUI group holidays in the UK i feel will always work best retaining the Thomson name. I know eventually people become used to a different name but there is nothing better than having a trusted brand name with years of loyalty and experience behind it. I even think it will create bigger opportunities for Thomas Cook and increase their sales once the Thomson brand is fully phased out...

I thought it was November 2018, unless this has been brought forward?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but that BGI flight on the 12th March from Newcastle is on a long haul configured 767 at present and operates via MAN as a tech stop.

That was the plan. Not heard of any changes but i suppose things do. Thomson and sister UK and IRE brands were to be the last to be phased out and into TUI branding by Nov 2018.

On Planefinder it says TOM2200, Man to JSI, that Thomson have been using a 787 occasionally in place of the usual 757s. Can this be correct as the runway is very short?

I think TUI are making a huge mistake dropping the Thomson name. TUI doesn't sound so user friendly and I agree with the posters who say Thomas Cook will take some trade, now that they have gone back to their original name. Don't some of these bosses love to waste money on silly re-brandings.

Talking

I wonder if Brexit will have any effect on these plans. Having voted against more integration with the EU, the exact opposite is happening here and a well known UK brand will disappear Perhaps Thomson will stay and the airline named something like.... Britannia!!(jokes as flashes back to the 70/80/90's)

If you have a known brand name like Heinz or Hoover why change a winning formula? Can you imagine Corsair, France (I believe a TUI company?) slapping a TUI logo on their aircraft. Sacre Bleu!

The cruise ship part of the business have already changed one ship to TUI, the Discovery is the first being followed by Schiff 1 and 2.

Thanks for that, I guess the direct info for the flight means you don't have to change planes or even get off. My calculation means we are on the plane for nearly 12 hours, 8 hours on a 767 is bad enough. I presume it's because Newcastle's runway is not long enough.

There is nothing wrong with longhaul on the 767. This is what it was built for and is still hugely popular on long haul flights, particularly across the Atlantic. Thomson Airways 767s will be set up in the Longhaul configuration for the winter and to the majority of customers will not be any different to flying on the 787. The seat comfort and space will be the same, pretty much the same IFE content and the same service that will be offered on the 787.

Can you imagine Corsair, France (I believe a TUI company?) slapping a TUI logo on their aircraft. Sacre Bleu!
To be fair Corsair was rebranded CorsairFly and rebranded into the World of TUI livery. As the company changed direction and wanted to become a more scheduled based carrier over leisure they rebranded back to Corsair with a new corporate image. However, we all know the story of the Thomas Cook group rebranding Condor in Germany. That didnt go down well at all with the German market and brand loyal customers. The Condor name was quickly brought back as we still see today. Similarly in the UK, I understand the Britannia Airways name and brand was dropped in the past. However as the Thomson name was well associated with their customers it was well accepted and understood. Again as others have mentioned, while the TUI brand has been accepted in the UK the name still means littke or nothing. As much as Thomson further push it into the market like they are currently doing, i feel names as strong as Thomson still have a place in the market.
