Heathrow Delay and Cancellations Today

Does anyone know why so many flight are delayed and cancelled in and out of Heathrow tonight. Aer Lingus have cancelled some flights from Dublin, Cork and Belfast. Some flights are diverted but I cant find out to where. EI184 is showing on Luton arrivals as arriving from Belfast Int. but this is a Dublin London flight...

Any info...

Very heavy thunderstorms in London this evening. Torrential rain, lightning and serious amounts of surface water everywhere. So good old diversion/cancellation reason WX AT DESTINATION AIRPORT again!

Thanks BAAdboy, there was no information online, well not that I could find.

Interesting to see Aer Lingus sending 2 flights to Luton. #724 and #184.
Surprised that they didnt go to LGW!

Landed in LHR this evening and it was awful. The Auto thrust got into a lot of distress skirting along the side of one of them.
Big line of thunderstorms extending for about 40 miles.
ATC were doing their usual great job.
Many thanks for all the vectors you gave us all.
I heard one guy turning 120 degrees right to avoid.
What a summer?
I'm off for three weeks.

EI was severely delayed out of DUB yesterday evening. They cancelled EI186 (the 21:15 departure), and yes, diverted all others to LTN. LGW would probably have been more ideal (for connections), but it's further away than LTN. Pax were given the choice to either stay overnight in DUB and be rebooked into the two early flights, or take their chances with LTN.

Granted, the crew on EI184 were as professional as they could be. EI did their best to arrange for coaches to take pax back to LHR, but there was NO coordination once at LTN. The pax were milling around outside and none of the airport staff were able to help. One pax who went to each coach hanging about asking which one was the EI coach managed to get some sense into the others. That coach made it to LHR by 1:50am. The other two coaches arrived shortly after, but I have no idea how many people either caught taxis (at 80 quid a taxi) or simply caught the bus to LTN Parkway for a train into the city. The same went for the pax on the 724 from Cork.

According to one SLF, EI 186 is routinely cancelled on a Sunday night because either the a/c is late into DUB (and can't make it to LHR in time for the curfew) or because of some other reason.

EIN have diverted around a dozen flights to Luton in the past couple of months, all because of the LHR curfew.
Perhaps they should operate the last flight into Luton anyway, or appoint an agent to deal with their pax as this is obviously becoming a fairly regular situation.

yes, I was flting into LHR from prague last night and we were placed in the hold for 1hr 10 mins and there were some nasty bursts there. We did manage to avoid them thanks to ATC, but on landing, we had to sit on the taxi way for another 50 mins waiting on our stand to become free from the outbound aircraft! eventually disembarked at 1015pm.

Aer Lingus diversions

I would suggest that Aer Lingus use use Luton for a number of reasons - firstly it is closer to Heathrow in flying time, secondly cheaper and thirdly more important it has no slot or night time restrictions ah la Gatwick. If aircraft land very late at Gatwick it is virtually impossible to depart until the morning due to noise restrictions.

LGS - Having an agent would have made things a lot more bearable for the EI pax who were waiting for the buses...

I've seen the cemetary that is Terminal 1 at 2am... only Costa is open at that time of night, and thank God for that. The amount of sleeping bodies on anything that can be slept on is unbelievable. :-\

I cannot give the ground crew at DUB high enough marks. On check-in they were very frank about EI 186's chances of leaving, checking us onto EI 184 instead. They kept us informed, they made sure we understood the options, and they were very professional throughout. :-)
