Routes from Germany to UK
I have been hoping for some years now due to airline announcements almost every week for routes to open up from my area of Germany (between Dortmund and Bremen) to South Wales or Bristol but no luck .Easyjet at Dortmund,Ryanair at Bremen and Air Berlin at Münster serve London,Edinburgh and Manchester which is a bit of a trek in the UK to reach my home town.Anyone know of any plans for Bristol or Cardiff to be linked with the German airports mentioned above.Always seems a bit strange that Germany-UK(very important trading partners etc) are not better linked. Thanks

Thanks for the replies.Unfortunately Frankfurt is a 3 hour train ride from my area (Osnabrück)and the OLT and KLM flights are a bit pricey.OLT strangely flies East from Bremen and lands in Hamburg, then flies back over Bremen to Bristol.I suppose these days with new routes opening up every week i'm hoping for doorstep to doorstep service.Münster/Osnabrück or Dortmund or Bremen to Cardiff would be quite nice!

Air Berlin have Münster sewn up and I can't see them being interested in Bristol. Ryanair from Bremen, you may have a chance thoug I couldn't see it being more than a few times a week. Are there no routes to DUS from either airport?

Have you thought about taking a LCC flight to Amsterdam and then jumping on the Train to Osnabruk. Only about 2 hours on the train from Schiphol.
You could fly bmibaby from Cardiff or Easyjet from Bristol.

So basically there is a service, but you want to go for nothing as i understand it. If you want to go for nothing I suggest you start at the end of the M5 and stick your arm out.
How many times you pay for what you get, stop moaning or move!

Does anyone know if this is a Summer-only route or whether the plan is to continue it into 2008/09 timetable as well? At the moment I don't seem able to book this route beyond the Autumn (which I would like to if it's going to continue!)
Thanks in advance...
(PS - have e-mailed Lufthansa direct twice, but needless to say no reply!)

Thrice daily does indicate it is not intended to be seasonal. If the yield is as expected, they will continue in the winter.
OLT flights to Bristol are actually a link of Airbus factories that are offered to the public as well (because not enough demand from Airbus itself to warrant a dedicated flight).

Despite my pointing this out to LH Customer services, many many routes ex-BRS do not have any fares loaded to them.
In the absence of specific fare basis, the site falls back to standard IATA Y fares, which are frankly crazy. (And if I remember correctly, LH said somewhere that they would no longer honour IATA Y fares from Summer 08, so chance are it wouldn't book anyway even if you were that bloody daft).
I'm booking most of my stuff through fare combining, which is ridiculous, and requires tools like expertflyer and an informed knowledge of fare rules.
I'll poke someone, again, and see if they can get something going. In the meantime, we'll wait for it to grow organically. It does take time....

LH BRSFRA will be on sale very shortly for W8/9 with full programme.
BT - we pass your comments to LH they are very useful. Please send through further details or any issues to '[email protected]' Please ask to be forwarded to the Commercial Department. If you dont get a reply say so via PPRUNE and we will work out another way to hook up. Thank you .
LH sales are on track as planned in the start up phase.

Hello a bristolian,
I've sent some mail over to [email protected] subject "FAO Commercial Department". I sent a summary over last night, and another instance has cropped up today (DXB-BRS) which I've sent a separate e-mail about.
You're welcome to PM me, and I can provide other info that I've gleaned.

Thanks for the heads up on this, Winter 08/09 flights now on sale and I'm happily booked up (cheapest way was Lufthansa's US site in the end, with the exchange rate back up to 1.97 and my trusty Nationwide Flex debit card!)
Incidentally all the flights BRS-FRA on Thursday 20th November are extremely expensive, not sure if this is another funny in their booking system or just a lot of people from Bristol are going to Germany that day! No matter, I booked on Weds 19th Nov instead and got the £30-odd fare.
Thanks again for help on here!
