Legally, I doubt any aviation authority can do anything about VA's and I don't think they're a bad idea. There's no reason their arrangement can't change to charter + ticket sales as far as the CAA are concerned when actually, having met Noel who is a fine chap, their arrangement sees Manx2 taking care of many things itself. It's just a shame that it happened to Manx2 again.
Regarding VA's in general. I think they're a good idea. The requirements of acquiring an AOC in the modern day in any Western European country is prohibitive. I think we should encourage VA's and hope that Manx2 work more closely with their 'suppliers' to ensure this does not happen again. But gear failure is one of those things. Happen to anyone.

Manx2 & Links Air
Have they fallen out?
27JUN2012: AIS Airlines operating domestic flights in Wales for Manx2
AIS Airlines (Netherlands) (Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS)) has wet-leased one of its two Jetstream 32s to Manx2 (NM, Isle of Man Ronaldsway (IOM)) currently operating the twice weekdaily domestic service in Wales between Cardiff International (CWL) and Anglesey Valley (VLY).

All of the Links Air Jetstreams are on lease, 2 with Manx2, 1 with Blue Islands and 1 damaged at IOM.
The AIS Jetstream is cover for a Dornier 228 on maintenance.

Is the Gloucestershire - Jersey route closing this month permanently, or is it just seasonal with summer 2013 yet to be published ? I note that the Oxford - Jersey and Gloucestershire - IoM routes have already been released up to June 2013

There is various rumours doing the circuit however what is known is that currently there is a Links Air - Jetstream 31 based at Cardiff to operate the Valley service.
There is also a 2nd Links Air - Jestream 31 based on the Isle of Man. A month ago the FLM Aviation - Dornier 228 moved from Cardiff to the Isle of Man to join their 2nd aircraft.
For whatever reason it appears that FLM aviation no longer operates for Manx2.com. Therefore Links Air has 2 x Jetstream 31 & Van Air 3 x LET 410 operating for Manx2.com currently.

The dornier IFLM operated here on the rock till the end of the summer programme then went back to Germany for maintenance and Links increased their planes from the start of Winter programme. The L 410s are always around but the other planes seem to change when the timetable changes come in twice a year.

I was under the impression, under EU rules regarding PSO routes, that the license to operate the PSO could only be given to a "true" air operator (i.e. with its own AOC)?
Sure, this wasn't a problem when the last Cardiff-Valley PSO tender came out, as I believe Manx2 simply had FLM apply for it in their own right with Manx2 simply being the "bolt on" sales & marketing part.
Now, if the deal between FLM and Manx2 has fallen apart and FLM are no longer operating the Cardiff-Valley PSO....would that PSO not have to go back out to tender if the "operating carrier" as designated under that PSO has pulled out?

passenger numbers are always really low in January and Feb anyhows so I suppose it makes sense to stop for the winter. BE used to do this with BRS and SOU but then they never came back.
