Miami, annual line check
Hi Chaps and Chapesses,
Have been rostered my annual line check to (LHR) MIA next week.
Haven't been there before or operated that far south off the NATs before.
Would really appreciate it if any of you could give me some top tips or general information on operatig into MIA, eg inbound delays, problems with weather/holding, general standard compared to other major US airports (BOS/JFK/EWR/IAD/LAX).
Thanks very much in advance.
PB

Just for starters, the ATC makes JFK look good !
I've been going there in 2 different lives (and different types) and they seem to specialize in high and fast...that said, the old adage is true: "JUST SAY NO!"
Can't remember what it's called, but if you're offered the LOC only onto the (new) most northerly of the 3 parallel runways, do yourself a favour and ask for the ILS onto the one beside it - haven't been refused yet, just makes your life a little bit easier (it's also longer and you won't have a runway to cross to get to the terminal!)
Plenty of decent alternates nearby: Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, even Nassau if the Florida weather has all gone wonky. And Bermuda on the way past if you're coming across that way.
Apart from that, once you get on the ground it's fairly civilized. Enjoy!
