Etihad Airways 777 ??

Hi ... Everbody..

I do not know if it's a rumour or not , but I heard that ETIHAD is going to get 777's in the very near future and that they are offering a nice package . Can someone confirm this and also do you know who to contact for flight deck crew employment .

Thanks.......

Wouldn't surprise me. First heard about Etihad about six months before they came about and their plans to "rival Emirates" and subsequent start-up with a couple of A330s seemed a little far fetched back then.

However, seeing them start up and do well I wouldn't put buying 777s past them.

I'll put a fiver on them being added to the A380 orderbook while we're at it...

ETIHAD 777's

It's confirmed that they are getting 2-3 B777's . A friend of mine is leaving Vietnam to join them. He told me the best way to contact them is to send an application on there website:

Post Etihad Airways: LHR T3 Info.

Etihad Airways inaugural flight from LHR - AUH will take place on 28th March 2004.

Flight No.: EY 302
Dep. Time: 2115
Arr. Time: #0725

This flight is wide open. The reservation figures show this flight as being empty, although that may change closer to the time and is probably because Etihad don't have a sales office in London as yet known.

Etihad will be operating five flights a week - one flight on Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and two flights each Saturday.

It will be handled by SAS Airlines in Checkin Zone E of Terminal 3.

Good luck to Etihad!

Blimey, about a year before Etihad launched I was told that they wanted to be the "new Emirates". This only goes to further that prediction... good on them.

Well, good luck to them, but how developed is Abu Dhabi compared to Dubai?
It seems to be well behind DXB in its development as a major tourism and business centre. If they want to fill this kind of capacty, they need to develop some local traffic. I'm not sure there's that much there, but then again, I doubt if they're too concerned about breakeven loads and that kind of thing.

I see EY as being a much bigger threat to the established carriers than to EK (yes, I know EK is established! I mean BA/QF etc.). How long before some bright spark in EY says: I know, let's fly from here to SYD/MEL/PER/AKL and we can established a hub for through traffic to LHR. And who suffers there? EK? Possibly; but much more likely BA/QF etc.

Personally I hope this does happen. Just as I welcome the addition of VS to the long monopolised Kangaroo route. Getting home to AKL is a real pain at the moment and transiting at LAX is just a hassle I don't need. Whereas once there were a number of airlines flying individually to AKL now both Star (ANZ) and Oneworld (BA/QF) dominate and the introduction of some non affiliated carriers is needed.

Discovering this new airline makes me think about opportunities. A quick visit on their site is indicating they're only hiring Airbus rated pilots !!!! Any confirmation or additional information for a B737 rated pilot ?

Etihad Airways has selected Airbus

Tuesday 20 July 2004

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has selected Airbus’ widebody long-range aircraft and the new generation double-deck Airbus A380 for its future growth. The Abu Dhabi based full-service airline has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to purchase 24 Airbus aircraft, including four of the highly advanced double-decked A380s, four ultra-long range A340-500s, four A340-600s and twelve A330-200s, the most efficient widebody twin.

Deliveries to Etihad are to begin in 2006 for the A330-200s and A340-500s, and in 2007 for the A340-600s and A380s. The A340-500s and –600s will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 500s – the A330 and A380 engines have yet to be selected.

Etihad will use the aircraft to further develop its route network within the Middle East and to Europe, Asia, India and to North America. Etihad currently operates a fleet of six aircraft, including four of the market leading A330-200s and an Airbus A340-300.

Dr Ahmed Bin Saif al Nahyan, chairman of Etihad Airways said, “Today is a truly significant day in Etihad’s young existence. I cannot recall a time in airline history when a start-up operation, barely eight months old, has had the confidence, resources and ambition to place orders for 24 new widebodied and very large aircraft. If you think the last eight months have been busy for us – this is nothing compared to what the coming months and years have in store.”

“We have, for over a year now, been in intensive discussions about our future craft needs with both Boeing and Airbus in which we considered a whole range of aircraft types, “ the chairman continued. “In all these discussions, we have had one goal – a fleet strategy which matches our own objectives of providing high quality air services to, from and through Abu Dhabi – the capital of the United Arab Emirates. We believe that the Airbus range of aircraft offers us the best option for both guest satisfaction and the future growth of the airline.”

“Etihad’s commitment gives me a great sense of pride. In less than one year, Etihad has attained an enviable reputation as one of the most respected airlines in the region. With our modern and very efficient aircraft we are proud to become Etihad’s partner for its rapidly expanding network,” said Noël Forgeard, Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer.

The Airbus A380 is the only modern aircraft design in the valuable 400-plus seat market, in which it has already established strong market leadership. Passengers will enjoy an outstanding level of comfort with more space in every seat, while airlines benefit from significant lower operating and maintenance costs.

Airbus A330/A340 aircraft form the most flexible and efficient long-range wide-body- family available on the market. They are equipped and manufactured with state-of-the-art technology, both in terms of materials and systems. With the A330/A340 and A380 sharing the same basic cockpit, Etihad is in addition well placed to benefit from savings in training for pilots, maintenance engineers and cabin crew.

Airbus is a leading aircraft manufacturer with the most modern and comprehensive family of airliners on the market. Airbus is a global company with design and manufacturing facilities in France, Germany, the UK and Spain, as well as subsidiaries in the US, China and Japan. It is headquartered in Toulouse, France. Airbus is an EADS joint Company with BAE Systems.

Expatriates flee Bahrain as attack fear spreads

MANAMA: Five weeks after he moved his family to Bahrain to escape the terrorist violence in Saudi Arabia, Desmond Montgomery is on the move again after threats by militants to make the Gulf island their next target.

The architect, 43, is disturbed by recent boasts on extremist websites that Al Qaeda supporters are in the final stages of plotting an attack there.

His company had considered relocating to Dubai, but that too has been mentioned by militant groups as another target in their expanding war.

There has been a debate, conducted in part on Islamist websites, as to whether Al Qaeda and its affiliates should concentrate their attacks against Westerners inside Iraq or spread them to other targets in the Gulf, including Bahrain and Dubai......

You need to understand the Gulf mentality before understanding why and how they've decided to order all the shiny new 'Buses.

Much of it is to do with the 'big d*ck' factor that features highly in all aspects of life in this part of the world.

Clearly the powers that be in Abu Dhabi, stung by the astonishing growth of EK feel that their dangly bits are now inadequate. Being part of GF isn't good enough anymore, in fact GF's a bit flaccid.

The only way to get back into the big d*ck club is to set up their own airline and buy the biggest/shiniest/flashiest that they can lay their hands on. With the cash to bankroll it gushing out of the ground, they needn't worry too much about making the numbers add up.

I think overcapacity is going to be the order of the day, especially considering the nervousness of many Westerners travelling to this part of the world whilst Osama and his cohorts are still skulking around.

Devil Etihad Orders more planes....

Rumour has it that Etihad (EY) are preparing to announce another very large order of mixed Airbus and Boeing aircraft at this years Dubai Air Show.

They have been waiting for the November event to announce firm orders on their ''own soil'' instead of the Paris Airshow earlier this year.

Speculation is approx. 40 aircraft in addition to those being delivered.

Total 777 fleet to be 25 the rest wil be A330's A350's, A340's and A380's ..
