Yes I remember EI-BTR operating for British Midland in the 80s. I have a photo of it there, taken from the rooftop terrace. It's not a particularly good photo, tho - taken by me as a child. But you can clearly see the reg and MME's terminal.
And I flew the DC-9 a few times. Yes it will be sad to see them go. But it's their airline, they need to run it as they see fit, and not just to please enthusiasts.
I much prefer KLM/Amsterdam for my connections anyway.

I've heard on the old grape vine that DTVA controllers are the lowest paid in the country and so people qualify and then go off to pastures new with more money?
Do you think Ryanair pays its captains as much as BA does? They're still qualified pilots. And when they have more experience they move on.

Loss of connections??
Just sad that more worldwide connections will be lost. Cant see anyone wanting to do a City route,as the new express trains start in a couple of months direct from Teesside to the centre of London.I'm afraid that will be the end of an era of air travel between North Yorkshire and London.
Thank goodness Emirates are starting the Dubai route from Newcastle in September..at least that will provide the travelling north east public with a fantastic hub for world wide connections!!

Whilst we're on the subject of the old British Midland, does anyone remember a day when there were FIVE BM F100s on the ground at once? I've been trying to get more information about this for years, does anyone know how I would trace any records or whatever which may have details of this?
I say five, it could have been four, or six, or one or two could have been FK70s, but I'm 80% sure it was five F100s, and I'm guessing, although can't be sure, that two were JER charters, two were LHR, and one could have been a divert, I guess various delays and things is what put them on the ground all at once, I remember I was flying abroad and was in the departure lounge at the time, going to Spain with either Iberworld or Futura most likely.
It occured in either the late 90s or very early 2000s.

Does anyone else remember British Midland B737-200s at MME in the late 80s too? There was EI-BTR in full 'BM' colours as well as a white one with 'BM' tail and titles. If anyone has any photos of this other aircraft it'd be great to see them as there seems to be no photos of it anywhere on the net. It may have been leased from TEA.

There are others of it on the same site too!

Strangely enough, I actually remember being at a friend's house in Elton, and seeing about 4 or 5 F100s on approach overhead into MME. I thought it looked a bit unusual!

So what? That happens in any business. We're not Heathrow or Manchester!

I'll tell you, shall I?
For an airport to function, i.e allow those big machines with wings to use the strip of concrete that you may also know to be called a runway (not forgetting our rotary brothers), we need to have Air Traffic Controllers.
If DVTA can't pay the going rate then the controllers will leave and we'll be back to the situation of the airport closing , quite rightly, I must add, to allow the required 30 mins rest every 2 hours, and sometimes not been able to stay open out of hours, which quite a few operators like to use.
For the airport to grow they need to keep the controllers which will enable the airport to stay open.
Regarding Ryanair, I'm sure it has happened but how often do they say...
"Sorry Mr Pax, we can't fly you to Dublin today because we don't have enough pilots. Now, please Mr Pax, you need to realise that we aren't BA and we don't pay as much as BA so all our experienced and highly qualified pilot's have gone to join them instead. What happened to loyalty? So Mr pax, I do hope you can understand why we don't have enough pilot's".
Stupid reason to say that DTVA isn't Heathrow or Manch.

Not exactly 'healthy' frequencies I don't think, not compared to this year, but more sensible definitely. Looks like it could be 2 aircraft from early July again because Palma increases from 2 to 3 a week then.

Jersey is up to twice per week and TFS is new. Interestingly quoting Tom Dalrymple he says "Were a new name to the region this summer and generally speaking response has been very encouraging"
By saying generally, some have done well - obvious which they are, but on the ones not done so well is it certain whole routes or just the volume of rotations they had - hence the cut backs. With TFS new, i wonder what else we might get!

The Station Manager of one of the Ground Handling companies, I'm 80% sure those were the two he said, but I could be wrong.
He also said that after this summer we wouldn't be seeing the 736's again, and with the inclusion of Tenerife South in both the winter and summer programmes, that would appear to be the case, as the 736's can't reach the Canary Islands.
