Maersk Air UK

I am looking for information on Maersk Air UK, with regards to the fleet they use and if they have any routes within the UK.

I have checked Airfleets website and they are saying that Maersk Air UK are no longer running.

I can't see this being true?

Any information on Maersk Air UK would be helpfull.

Regards
VFR

Maersk UK

VFR Transit

Well and truly gone.

Management buyout sometime in May 2003, then started in November
2003 as DUO and ceased operations in May 2004 ( I thought it was 2005
but I must be getting old).

Maersk UK operated under the BA banner with 735's and CRJ's (before that
part of Brymon European with 1-11's/F50's and Birmingham Executive with J31's, G159's and SF340).

When the BA Franchise was not renewed or not taken up the 735's went
away and Duo launched with CR2's and CR7's to LYS, CGN, MXP, HEL, STR, TXL, GOT, EDI, CPH, ARN, Oslo, NCE, VIE, GVA and ZRH.

Loads were generally awful, it sort of operated as a full service
airline with low-cost fares and it all ended in tears.

Flew on the 1-11's in April 97, which I suppose was Maersk or was
it still Brymon - anyone help with this one?

I am sure there are loads of people on this forum who can add bucket loads of information and far more accurate than my dodgy memory.

Accurate info from OltonPete - just missing that it WAS a great airline to work for (in the Maersk Air Ltd. days) who really looked after their own

Cheers

OP,
Very close bud, most you say is spot on, but needs tweeking as follows:
Maersk Air UK ‘formed’ through the de-merger of Brymon European. Brymon to BA, Maersk Air UK back to AP Moller.
Commenced BA franchise flying 08/1993 with BAC 1-11 400’s and 500’s along with Jetstream 31’s, a great day when the then BA 767 BHX-JFK was told to give way to the company Jetstream )
(1-11 400’s GAVGP/GAWBL/GBBME/GBBMG 500’s GAWYR/S/V J31’s GWMCC/GOBEA/GCBEA)
Then introduced 737-500’s, Jetstream 41, CRJ-200 and finally CRJ-700.
(737’s GMSKA-E, J41 GMSKJ, 200’s GMSKK-U and I think the 700’s GMRSG-K)
All types operated as BA, with duo inheriting only CRJ200 and 700 types.
(700’s GDUOA-E 200’s GDUOF-H)
OP, your 1-11 flight was most definitely, a Maersk Air UK operated flight. (Unless we had subbed in European on the day!)
Echo FM’s comments, an absolutely brilliant company to work for. I started 12 days into Maersk Air Ltd, and stuck it out to the phone call at 0730 on the first of May 2004. Great times, great people and a great Airline and I for one would never wind the clock back………….
OP, yes, they are gone, but technically still in administration, no hope of anything rising from the ashes though.

Grrr

I only flew with them twice, but the on-board service was excellent if you compare it to how some airlines cabin crew treat their customers today!

My last ever flight on a 1-11 (G-AWYR) shortly after the fleet had been withdrawn, but one was kept as a 'back up' just in case of technical problems with the remainer of the fleet prior to it being sold in South Africa (I think?).

This culture was obviously reflected in its customer care - it was a great airline to fly with. Sadly missed

Maersk

Thank you for filling in the gaps.

Most people I know that had flown with Duo raved, especially those not particularly interested in aviation. However the people with connections in the aviation industry certainly enjoyed their flights but were a little more cynical and said it would never last - alas they were right.

As a BHX local I was certainly one who was routing for them but
unfortunately at the time I was not able to use them (young family
and a draining bank account).

I have just checked by flight records and it was G-AWYR on 25/4/98
and back on G-AWYV on 27/4/98. My only flights with Maersk.

Same here mate, duo was a young family with a draining bank account
If only AP Moller had funded duo, I am sure it would still be going. Saab 2000s at at a guess so back to the roots, great service on t/props................enter the 'new' Birmingham European Airways.
Thanks to all for the positive comments about Maersk and duo, customer service was always top of the list to us, front of house and behind the scenes, (even as BA), something perhaps now sadly missing in the age of LoCo. Our 737 weekend charter work to the sun got the same attention as our schedules, as did all the ad-hoc stuff, a view that I am sure will return to the industry, sadly without the people who made VB special.
Hey OP, do you take your name from a place just outside of the Green?
Thanks all

Duo

boredcounter

Yep, dragged up in AG as a lad and moved across the border
when I sold myself to the devil

Actually my previous neighbour in Olton is a DHL FO and he got to pax a few times on the DUO Cologne and said the service was good but the pax on board were few.

Mind you BHX - CGN has been a troublesome route for all who have tried, fullstop!

Give my regards to the Red Lion next time you venture accross the border mate!

Maersk and Duo

I had the great pleasure of flying with this airline many times to CPH and MRS and ATH as Maersk, apart from the snooty BA check-in (my brother was one of them!) Maersk service was second to none. I flew VIE and OSL with the newly formed Duo. On the two latter flights I was one of three onboard CRJ-200 BHX-EDI-OSL no-one joined in EDI and One of eleven on CRJ-700 BHX-VIE. The service, concept, professionalism and design of the company was excellent. This airline was let down by poor marketing, who remembers "when did you last feed the ducks" on the TV ad??? and insufficient finance,on its demise passenger numbers were increasing word had got out only too late.
Sad days Birmingham's routes and growth dont seem to have done so well either since the demise of its "own" airline?

how you doing mate? well said in previous post. certainly good old days!
BHX hasnt been the same since may 2004. if Duo had hung on till now with BA disappearing in 3 months time i reckon it would have been a big success!

oh well thats life. still waiting for my 4p in the £ from administrators but still get to park at Maersk house on way to Woolies.

hope to see you next month.

You have given me a great idea.....................
If we all pool our 4p in the pound, we could get a round in next month
I was gonna suggest starting an airline, but we would end up with 1p in the pound, not a great investment!
Daza has hit the nail on the head. Advertizing. Not only was it poorly funded, It bore no relevance to the product. The adverts in the Birmingham Evening Mail so closely resembled that of a department store, I had to look twice to identify it, despite a memo telling me to look!
As for advertising at European destinations for return traffic
If only we had another 2m in the company for advertising, not administators fees.........................................

Well as everyone else seems to be posting on here, it would be rude of me not to join in!!!!
Could not agree more with all your comments and still wish I could be working there now! Have never worked with such a good, close bunch of people, and I feel eveyone else felt the same. This was well reflected at the gathering in Touchwood the other week.
Luckily most people seem to have gone on to bigger better things and seem to be happy.
I'd like to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. Hope we can all get together real soon.
Love Laura

Maersk Air UK?

Apparently Air UK objected to the name Maersk Air UK so the company was called Maersk Air Ltd to differentiate it from Maersk Air AS.

One of the reasons that it disappeared is that the Moller Group wanted to stick to boats and leave aviation to those who understood it. Duo unfortunately evolved from the ashes of Maersk at a very bad time for aviation generally and did not have a "duck" in hell's chance!!

Great Company, great people, sorely missed.

Merry Christmas all!!
