Now that they (finally) assumed their fragile position maybe it's time to take control again with some serious management measures. Hope they can get up to their feet again.
Wizz Air have today announced their entry into the Slovak market with 4 times weekly between Bratislava and Rome, currently served daily by Sky.
Following Wizz establishing a base in Prague, it is beginning to look as though Wizz are targeting Sky. Another nail in the coffin?

Wrong !
Sky Europe Airlines Hungary ceased operations in oct 2007 and transfered all aircrafts to mother Sky Europe s.a.s. from Slovakia. It was the time that they farewelled Budapest Ferihegy airport and all routes from Hungary.

Yeah, there is nothing funny about that.
SkyEurope Hungary was, formally, an independet company. In reality, however, it was just a SkyEurope-base in the city of Budapest.
Unlike the bases in Warsaw, Krakow, Vienna and Prague, however, they had (partly) their own management, a different callsign ("Matra" instead of "Relax") and a different identifier (5P, instead of NE).
It worked quite well while it existed, but was shut down for some typical SkyEurope-management reasons. Racism also played part in it.
Closing down SkyEurope Hungary didn't save the mother-company from collapsing. But it was, at that time, the certain proof that SkyEurope was finished; nobody could deny the facts anymore after that.
Formally, "SkyEurope Hungary" actually still exists on paper, but there are no plans about re-activating it.

Nightfire,
Apologies about that..im not quite good in cutting and pasting...I thought the fact that racedo wrote #new name and restarting routes# was funny..NOT that sky europe hungary was closed.
Our FOM is Hungarian as well as our Vienna base, which clearly shows that skyeurope management isnt against hungarians in general.
Safe flights on our new routes
Oh and Mr Jason Bitter is out....

No worries, skyeuropecapt, I didn't take it personal from you in any way.
I understood the post in a meaning that, apparently, there is a rumour out about SkyEurope opening new routes under a different name, and this should have been considered a joke that made you laugh.
That's why I went to explain that SkyEurope Hungary is history, not a rumour.
I obviously misunderstood you, so my apologies in return.
Bitter Lemon is gone (what a cool name! ), just unfortunately too late.
Mind you, if SkyEurope actually were to re-open Budapest-base and start operating again, I'd be sending in my application tomorrow morning! - oh well, that's daydreaming... I'll go get another beer now...

SkyEurope's Latest Offer
I thought SkyEurope was in trouble??.
If they are why are they now offering a buy one get one free offer on ALL flights from 18th July until 24th October.
Advert Removed.
I am sure it will increase their load factor but thats it.
Just a thought the offer is for ALL flights departing between the 18th July and 24th October.
I am sure they will now see an increase in forward bookings. However I can't help but think that SkyEurope will be lucky to still be in business on the 18th July let alone the 24th October. Why did they not start the buy 1 get 1 free offer now.. Why wait 14 days.....
Is SkyEurope trying to get some last minute cash in before they are finally shut down..
Is anyone going to put them out of their misery and shut them down??. They remind me of the old Alitalia. Always loosing money but no one has the bottle to put them out of their misery!!!

BALaddy - it's common when companies are bankrupt in all but name, for management to move to a strategy of 'managing for cashflow' instead of 'managing for profitability', in a desperate struggle to somehow keep going. After all, if you were part of the senior management team of a failing company, you know you'd have difficulty finding a job elsewhere - so one might consider it better for oneself to just gamble everything on keeping your current job.

Didn't take him long to find a new job - he's been appointed as the CEO of Air Arabia (Maroc)
Unfortunately JB always knew to convince the right people (management, creditors, investors). "Who cares, company pays..."
Let's see if he is far enough to avoid prosecution for the criminal act he is under investigation as SkyEurope's accountable manager

As it seems, the bankruptcy protection does work in favour of Sky right now. If you, however, intend to fly with this carrier as a passenger, be informed that it works somewhat... better than you might have expected. Or, from the passenger's point of view, worse.
According to Czech sources, passengers whose flights were canceled or changed, having the obvious (and already confirmed) rights to full refund, will have to wait for months to get their money back (if it ever happens). These pax are creditors, and according to NE, they must wait as everybody else. Hundreds of clients have already got the email messages telling them: for the time being, you'll get nothing. Be aware!

Let's hope for the best. With JB out, and under the bankruptcy protection, there are two positive assets in favour of SkyEurope. Despite many annoyed passengers (including some who I know personally - they are also still waiting for their ticket-refund), a huge percentage of them are surprisingly loyal.
Problems with cancelled flights, unanswered emails, and tickets just not being refunded, are normal practice by many low-cost airlines. Therefore I don't think this will be a major problem. Although it is certainly not correct on behalf of the company, it's just normal practice in this segment (ever tried to get a refund from Ryan-fxxking-air?)
I don't have much hope for the future of Skyeurope, but for a while they will now go on. Like before.
Somehow, that company just refuses to die; without ever resolving any of their problems, they just drag on and on and on.
