Went past and had my first good look at the Terminal. It appears to be in need of some improvements .
And never noticed until today how close the Railway OLE masts are to the approach lights.
In contrast to yesterday's view I had of GLA.
Now im all for small regional airports succeeding.
But The huge poster I noticed at Pik on the wall of the Terminal. GLASGOW AIRPORT. Then in really small text , (Prestwick) or West. Something like that anyway.
Coupled with a building that must be in need of Tlc cant be doing much for its appeal.
And yet despite all the anti PIK mob on here. Having driven from Ayr via Kilmarnock and on up to the road that brings you almost to the end of GLAs runway. You realise what a ball ache that trip is either before or after a holiday.
Somehow someone is missing a trick there. Railway station. Right outside. D2 roads linking far and wide.
Why isnt it attracting more tour operator's.
Or for example Links air could copy the loco idea of using it as Glasgow airport. And then open up regional links around the uk.
Is there any masterplan?.
Also do the fly to BHD

Initial Improvements to upgrade surfaces , lighting , buildings and upgrades to all airfield related engineering issues that previous owners did not improve. And also the PDB slogan got pulled down.

Winter schedule looks very harsh, with 2 aircraft based. One day there doesn't seem to be any flights in the afternoon/evening, and on Wednesday only Dublin in the morning and Derry in the evening. Anyone have details of last winters schedule for comparison; I know there was 3 aircraft but thats about all I remember?

Improvements have been made internally, you only have to fly through to see them, oh yes I forgot - nobody does or wants to fly to/from PIK! (sarcasm
- I do work there)

737aviator - It is premature to make comparisons with last winter's Ryanair schedule as I don't think the schedule for next winter is complete. For instance there is now also a Malaga flight been put on sale on Wednesdays. It may be a few months before we know for certain what the final schedules will be.

Scottish Flyer, yeah indeed it's never going to be the right time to start looking at the schedule; but Ryanair did make a point of saying the winter schedule was now on sale when releasing their annual results earlier in the week. Change is continuous, but it's still worth watching with interest.
Last year it was quite late in the summer when BVA disappeared from the winter schedule from what I remember, end of September wasn't it, so there could still be surprises, positive or negative.
Skipness, sounds familiar except it was 16 DUBs, wasn't it - 3 on Friday and Sunday?

Transport Scotland's senior advisor on the future of Prestwick Airport has completed his report, but it won't be made public. Deputy First Minister will provide Scottish Parliament with a further update on progress at Prestwick Airport next month.

Alternatively, the report is so shocking, as in you have bought a pig in a poke with no clear future, that the government will bury it.
From what I can see, the Scottish Government bought PIK without a particular plan in mind - hence the current management remain and there is no forward looking plan currently in place.
What happens if Ryanair succumb to Amanda McMillan's charms and move their pax ops up to GLA, leaving just their MRO operation and free parking deal at PIK?
There is not enough revenue from mil fights, training flights or cargo to keep the lights on which is why the government is using taxpayers money to do so.
Prestwick has a future, but it needs management that has imagination, vision and a passion for the place. From my experience that is clearly missing, otherwise there would not have been a need for the Government to bail the business out.
There certainly doesn't appear to be a welcoming attitude to new businesses.

I suspect Ryanair are in a win win position at PIK and see a vulnerable owner with very deep pockets in much the same way as a FR passenger with too many bags at the gate.
If the owners were to suspend commercial operations then there would probably be compensation due to Ryanair and if they decide to keep funding it then they need Ryanair more than Ryanair need PIK
I think PIK will stay open if Scotland votes yes for independence, either way sooner or later PIK will have to file accounts or a freedom of information request will get to the bottom of just how much it is costing to keep it open above its revenues

Flew over PIK en route to TFS the other morning, the coast line looks stunning, a question for the locals, is there much inward tourism to that side of Scotland or does it tend to be Edinburgh & the lochs ?
The full report was bound to be commercially sensitive so no surprise that the detail will be withheld, but critical infrastructure should be protected and tax payer funded if thats the only way to keep it open, it must be an important lifeline for local business that depend on it for access to markets

LNIDA - theres a fair degree of inward tourism but not on the scale that goes to Edinburgh. Glasgow and the west coast does attract a good number of visitors but as regards Ayrshire I would say that most inward tourists are golfers looking to play the likes of Turnberry, Prestwick and Royal Troon. The Isle of Arran is attracting many Europeans and being a regular visitor myself I am noticing good numbers of Spanish, Dutch and German tourists.
