Interesting arguments on all sides but I for one will be waiting to see what happens in Prestwick`s future, I`m hopeful! Onwards and upwards is good, providing it is owned by someone who actually cares about the place....

I visited Caledonian Aero at PIK several times in the 80s and was puzzled at this resource being so underutilized:
1) The reason it was a WWII ATC ferry station, its (relatively) good WX, was still evident. One Guy Fawkes Day, there were two dozen widebodies parked all over the PIK ramp and taxiways while the remainder of Great Britain was socked in. (Of course, no adequate pax facilities to permit unboarding)
2) The British Rail line from Ayr passes within a few hundred yards of the PIK terminal, but no easy connection between the two.
Was is economics? Or pure politics?

Wizz lost to Glasgow
BBC News - Glasgow Airport poaches Polish flights from Prestwick
That won't do the sale price any good now will it? AARGH!
Scene 1, Infratil meeting with client, Wizz
Infratil : "What do you mean you're seeing someone else? Stay with me, you can use my facilities for next to nothing!"
Wizz : "Nah we're still leaving. Not only that but we're off before the end of the winter season. Cheerio."
Now THAT's painful.

Oh well, nice one Glasgow poaching from both PIK & EDI recently.
Three words, Infratil, Shameful & Useless! Drop the price and sell Prestwick to someone who will give a dam, get out of my country and don`t ever come back!

No I think Joe is jealous as he thinks that LCC routes are the strict domain of Luton Airport North (AKA EDI). Joe whines when GLA gets inter-continentals - it's a conspiracy against EDI; he moans when GLA uses marketing funds to lure business flights to Scotland's only true business hub (forgetting the fact that EDI have set up their own £15m slush fund) and now he moans because a LCC chooses the convenience of GLA over the spartan PIK......it must be an age thing!

PIK Sale Imminent?
Apparently a report on BBC Scotland today mentioned that the sale of PIK is imminent. The move of WIZZ is not a total surprise given FR's addition of Warsaw and Rzesnow to that of Wroclaw and again rumours are circulating that FR may add additional flights which may more than cover the loss of the 3 weekly WIZZ flights. So, if true it may not be a net loss of PAX but it now leaves PIK as a true Ryanairport - perhaps it is FR who are the bidders

Trumpeting about dubious 'true business' is the stuff of team colours. We are talking about poaching from another Scottish airport here - remembering the transfer of Scottish TX - I hope that PIK can rise once again and competition on Scotland's West Coast can resume without what appears to be taxpayer financial leg-ups.

This is a commercial decision by Wizz, in the face of competition from FR. Whilst GLA (or any other airport) could provide startup assistance, the suggestion of underhand tactics is wide of the mark, IMHO.
I can't see the difference between BAA-LHR Ltd money and GIP money, neither are publicly funded.
Joe, the gloves are off. EDI will win some, GLA will win some, and maybe PIK will survive in some way. What goes around comes around.

Perhaps those throwing about accusations that taxpayers money has been used to enable this move could provide evidence to back up their claims?

the gloves are off
poached TX, even prevented some infrastructure changes on the way out.
This isn't about aviation anymore, it's about prestige.. I tried hard to find the PIK supporters in this PIK forum.. Unfortunately it's more about how wonderful GLA is...

there is no need for your constant negativity either, so if it doesn't suit you why do you persist in these posts? Perhaps you'd be better bringing the Edinburgh post back up the rankings with some news if that's where your obvious allegiance lies....
