More bad news for BMI

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/news/ar...8&in_page_id=2

The above has appeared today. Will BMI ever find there way?

BMI Mainline still seems to be losing the fight for passengers with its competitors and now BMIBaby is also losing ground, it would appear due to simply not growing fast enough to keep up with those around it and dominate in the markets it is trying to play in.

Whats on the horizon for BMI and how much longer can it continue? With SAS and Lufthansa looking for the exit door, who's gonna want their 50% combined share? Will Branson be back at the door with a cheque?

It's a great shame as i've tried BMI's premium economy and it was first rate, but they are chopping and changing their networks so much that it appears they have lost all direction. Lets hope 2006 is a better year for them.

Re: More bad news for BMI

interesting report there...........
who knows what will happen to bmi, yes they are right in what they said - they have concentrated on longhaul rather than the shorthaul product but none the less they shouldnt have really let this slip. I believe that the longhaul product bmi offer is spot on and im sure everyone will agree on that, however, the demise of the shorthaul should not be looked over, my view is that they offer the same product as baby! - perhaps though a more expensive cost base than us!
the rumours about branson always surface and will never go away until he actually buys the airline!!!
i dont think bmibaby should be brought into this, there is defintely no slump here, what people have to remember is that we are still only 4 odd years old, yes okay jet2 and flyglobespan have grown rapidly but we will see.......... Easyjet and Ryanair have been around for double figures in years!
these are changing times for the bmi group, and yes people will criticise because they love to think that they are right and know better - maybe they are on some occasions, but time will be the key in this one! I stronlgy believe that in a years time the bmi group will have sorted out what they want and will be in a better position than they are currently! As for baby, its only natural for it to grow older and wiser and BIGGER!

baby might grow faster if they stopped dallying around with the likes of Air Wales, whose legendary unpunctuality is hardly likely to give people a good impression. bmir would make some sense equipment wise but baby? Only two options make any sense - divest (BA/go) or re-integrate (AC/tango, DL/song).

hi LB!

yes i agree, we must not forget that, but the way things are shaping up the excellent reputation theyve earnt over the years is being washed down the pan! - everywhere i read bmi are getting slated for the confusion in change and pax are not trav with bmi! unfortunately thats the way it is these days, but a year down the line i feel bmi (mainline) will be better off! (i hope!)

Wink Re: More bad news for BMI

From where I'm sat, its hard to see what is so different about the product, but of course, you're at the sharp end so I trust your judgement.
This is going to be a very interesting year, what with further expansion into the longhaul market. Baby still have a very big part to play, which is very good for you, and for us in ops, as it keeps me damned busy. Hell, if I had any hair left, then I could at least pull it out !

Off topic, have moved into the new house, so pls pop in for a beer.
Might even get the good lady to make a sarnie for you.

Re: More bad news for BMI

ha!! nice one lb, thought i saw you doing some painting............

fao railgun, i dont think that will be the case - and there is no misery in bmi, just a change reacting to todays situation, if things hadnt changed i would have feared the worse! i believe things will get better without involving virgin etc, as ive said before though, its going to be a big year!!

Re: More bad news for BMI

bmi made headway in cutting cost base and incorporating a more robust operation of late at LHR,
baby perhaps need to consolidate before the next round of expansion,
whilst longhaul is growing with one of the best presentations in the business-
certainly on its own A330.

Another interesting year ahead for bmi !!!............-

In My Honest Opinion ........... of course.....
(but also for messers bbfc and lb!)
