"Under the "Heathrow East" plan, BAA will knock down Terminal 2 and the Queen's Building office block next door."

And of course the perfect opportunity for a new secure spectators area for the enthousiasts
Demolish the Queen's Building ! Never!. My formative years and love of aviation were forged on the observation gallery of the Queen's Building. It won't be replaced as anyone wanting to get to within 100m of an aircraft these days is assumed to have nefarious intentions.
I just thought, this will bring back the old joke about Heathrow- "the only building site with it\'s own airport"

Simply cannot and must not happen. Surely it must be a listed building. I worked in QB along with colleagues from AC dispatch and BA for many years. It's a building of significant historical interest. Is the P51 monument still on the roof. What was the name of the PA pilot that flew it|?

Charles Masefield.
I too spent my formative years on the QB balcony in the 1960's, but the whole place is so awful now I support the redevelopment plan.
Charles Blair was Chalks flying boats, and flew the Shorts Sandringham that used to be at Calshot, now in Kermit Weeks' museum near Orlando.

Fer goodness sake, LHR is a major International airport NOT a blooming museum!! If the building is that important take it down and rebuild it elsewhere and allow LHR to modernise!
I also used to watch A/c from the Queens building but if it is stopping LHR from becoming more efficient then it has to go. It isn't as if UK is short of historic buildings!!

T2 and the QB are a significant part of post war British history. From the minute the first brick was laid their parts in history were confirmed. Because of that they cannot be pulled down.
Modernise them by all means, especially the check in area with its very low ceilings. However the stone flooring the brass stair rails and the 1950's architecteral style must not be altered.
The BAA should cash in on the style, historical importance of these two fine buildings.
The stories they can tell, the Beatles, the ambassador crash, the Air France bomb, Libyan repatriaion of the PC Fletcher killers, the Iranian gas victims etc etc etc.
Knock them down and build a copy of that filthy terminal building at STN. You're having a larf mate.

Sorry, but these 'ill' buildings must be knocked down, LHR is an utter dump as a passenger, give everyone a chance to have a 'T5 experience'
The check-in area and baggage hall are a joke

The original Tents weren't kept, the first terminal buildings by the Northern Apron weren't kept. T3 looks nothing like it did when opened.
All you "it must be preserved" people....get over yourselves.
When did you last visit either the QB or T2 purely to soak up the atmosphere or spend time with the ghosts?
Take the time to search for photographs of the original state of the Europa Building - there are some great ones in the Heathrow Visitors Centre on the Northern Perimiter Road - you will see that the current T2 is a gastly hole that bares very little resemblance to the way it was built - granted, in its day it was a suitable, modern, even stately building suitable for "London Airport" - now, for London Heathrow, it is well past its sell by date.
Bring on the balls!!

DCDriver, I beg to differ, it WAS Charles Blair at a much earlier point in his career. Charles Masefield flew a P-51 in the 1970s, hence the confusion. Sorry, getting way off topic here!

Found this link while trying to find a picture of the building and to see that all the fuss was about.

Yes would be a great shame for the building to go.

Well we all thought that T5 was going to overcome the desperate shortage of gates at Heathrow. If T2 is going to be demolished after T5 opens will we not be heading back where we started ? I know T5 has more gates than T2 but it is still two steps forward then one step back.
