PIA has done quite alot of things as well but people still fly with them(lack of choice on Pakistan routes!!!)I was stuck on LHR for three days just last year due to TECHNICAL FAULT.back in 1999 they cancelled my LHE-AMS flight and send us to LHR and then for onwards flight with BA to AMS.in the end it took me OVER 26 travelling to reach AMS and then i had to go to Belgium from there so almost 40hours without sleep!!!still i had flown with PIA,unhappily, due to no direct flights to LHE...I guess people from Leeds and Bradford will also only consider their connections and the total travel time...IF Swe started agian and its a VERY BIG IF

Swe Fly Update

Swe Fly facing bankruptcy
The owners of airline Swe Fly are expected to decide on Monday whether to put up new capital in order to save the company from bankruptcy.

The company, which flies from England to Pakistan via Stockholm Skavsta, suspended flights over the weekend, leaving 400 passengers stranded in Lahore.

One of the passengers who managed to find another way home was Kicki Nordström from Lidingö. She flew from Skavsta to Lahore last Monday and had her home flight confirmed on Thursday. But on Saturday, she and the other passengers were told at Lahore airport that their flight had been cancelled.

"A horrible experience," Kicki told TT. "Many people were in complete despair."

At Swe Fly's office at the airport there was a note on the door with two telephone numbers - neither was answered. Nor was there a reply from Swe Fly's offices in Stockholm or Lahore.

Instead of a direct flight home, Kicki Nordström was forced to take an 18 hour diversion with another airline.

Swe Fly cancelled Friday's and Saturday's flights from Skavsta. The reason, according to managing director Peter Nyblom, was a lack of cash.

"The owners are in negotiations but these are taking some time," he told TT.

"There is a risk of bankruptcy if no new capital comes in."

Around 400 passengers are stuck in Pakistan. The majority should be able to get home with connecting flights to the UK and Norway.

"This is a big concern. We can't transport them home and our competitors' planes are more or less full," said Peter Nyblom.

Kicki Nordström criticised Swe Fly for not having contacted its passengers:

"I wonder what happened to all of those who didn't have the option of buying a new ticket. Many of them were families with children who were visiting relatives."

Peter Nyblom took over as managing director for Swe Fly in June, with the task of putting the company on the right track.

"The company has had it tough for a while. Pakistan's state-owned airline PIA has driven down its prices and we've had a hard time responding to that. Our problem is that Pakistan is our only destination," he explained.

The Swedish Aviation Authority said on Sunday that it was unaware of Swe Fly's financial difficulties.

here is an update from www.swefly.com
Update from SWE FLY Friday 9 September.

Regretfully, SWE FLY is yet unable to assist passengers from Luton, Leeds, Lahore and Stockholm/Skavsta waiting for a SWE FLY flight. However, there is a possibility that SWE FLY will arrange to bring stranded passengers home. A solution will hopefully be presented with new owners on this web page next week.

Regarding future bookings for Bangkok a solution is also possible with the prospective new owners.

Passengers who are unable to wait for a later and non guaranteed flight will have to make alternative arrangements. The management of SWE FLY is currently unable to deal with this situation in any other way and sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience caused to passengers by the financial constraints that the company finds itself in at present.

Stockholm-based Swe Fly, which flew from Luton and Leeds/Bradford, admitted on its website that it was "not able to finance the operation" after halting flights on Friday.
Swe Fly appointed London-based Crystal Travel, an Atol-holder, as its sales agent. Under CAA rules, Crystal would normally be responsible for repatriation and refunds. However, it sold tickets with scheduled airline failure insurance and Atol coverage does not apply.

A Crystal spokesman said customers would get their money back within six weeks, but admitted those stranded or due to travel soon would have to buy another ticket and claim from insurers. "Insurance was included in the fare, there is no problem," he added.

The spokesman said passengers in Pakistan could "come back on another airline and then claim". Asked what they should do if they had no cash, he said: "Borrow it." Although these passengers will get refunds, the Swe Fly suspension again highlights loopholes in consumer protection laws, as any who booked direct without insurance will not get their money back. The CAA is urging blanket coverage of all airline sales via a £1 levy to cover repatriation and rebooking.

Riaz Dooley of Skylord Travel said he had 26 clients booked with Swe Fly and had been inundated with calls. "About 400 people are stranded, a lot of them in Pakistan. There is no staff to look after them," said Dooley. "I got in touch with relatives of a couple of clients to get them the money to get back, but it is very difficult to get flights."

Swe Fly started flying from Luton in May. It ran a connecting service to Stockholm, where it operated a Lahore flight using a single Boeing 767. A month later, it began flying from Leeds/Bradford, with fares from £350 return, but Pakistan International Airlines started a price war. A CAA spokesman said it was unable to help those stranded. "We only come into it if the Atol-holder goes under and we have to call their bond," he said. Swe Fly is expected to decide on Monday whether it can restart operations. Crystal Travel has no connection with Crystal Holidays.

Swe Fly applies for restructuring
The crisis-hit airline Swe Fly, which flies to Pakistan from Stockholm's Skavsta airport, has applied to Nyköping district court for permission for corporate restructuring, according to media reports.

The company, which has 100 employees, suspended flights between Skavsta and Lahore on September 2nd. At the same time, all payments were frozen, leaving the company with depts of up to 37 million kronor (£2.7m).

The application for reconstruction has been approved by the company's most important creditors, Sörmlandssparbanken and Almi Företagspartner.

A Stockholm law firm, Lindskog Malmström, has been given the task of looking into the legal conditions for continuing the business.

Here is the new update from www.swefly.com
Update from SWE FLY Friday 16 September.
Regretfully, SWE FLY is yet unable to assist passengers from Luton, Leeds, Lahore and Stockholm/Skavsta waiting for a SWE FLY flight.

The Swedish court has not yet accepted SWE FLY’s application for protection from its creditors. However, this is expected early next week. SWE FLY’s lawyers are hopeful that a solution to company problems will be found in the near future.

Hi

Heres some, Not so good News regarding the swefly situation.

Date Monday 26 September 2005
Date Monday 26 September 2005
As previously stated, SWE FLY has suspended all payments and as a consequence has had to stop all flights from 2 September 2005.

All SWE FLY aircraft have been repossessed and are now under the control of the respective owners outside of Sweden. SWE FLY therefore currently has no aircraft to operate. As one consequence of the above all Boeing 767 pilots will become redundant as from 1 October, many having already been able to find a new airline to work for.

SWE FLY is actively investigating if other airlines are able to assist stranded passengers. Regretfully, SWE FLY has no funds and is still unable to help passengers financially.

The owners and the management of SWE FLY regret having to bring such negative news to the public attention.
