Luton Snow closed

Just closed at 07:44. Closed for a minimum of 60 minutes but as it is snowing quite hard I suspect it will be longer than that.

Stansted Closed due Snow

Seems Stansted is closed due snow, Ryanair's are diverting to BHX, LGW etc anywhere they can get.

Expected to be closed 60 minutes ++, stopped snowing now !!

Just heard that Luton has re-opened and a number of Stansted bound flights are diverting there.

Obviously takes much longer to sweep Stansted runway than it does Luton\'s, perhaps the tractor\'s at Stansted have packed up !!

Will keep the ground handlers at Luton busy today !

Whilst it might keep LTN's bag handler's busy, I doubt that it will increase their hourly throughput or accuracy.

Two speed system

You are probarly right there about the thoughput, if they are like a number of bag throwers that the handling companies employ, the fantastic wages they pay and terms & conditions is enough to take the two speed work rate, dead-slow and stop.

Yes, I know it sounds unfair and not all airports are the same, there are some good teams out there, working at our regional airports and some at our major's, all - in - all, they do a good job, but no doubt many times they are working with reduced man-power, so like everything else, aint got the tools, cant do the job !!

I was working at Stansted this morning and the airport was closed for around 3 hours between approx 08:00 and 11:15.

The snow ploughs and Tractors ect were constantly clearing the rwy during this time but as fast as they did the snow just re-settled!

Still, although the pax were less than impressed with the delays at least it gave us ramp guys some time for a well earned, and waited for snowball fight!!

Regards.

Matt.

Stansted's runway was closed for about 2 hours (0850-1050) so obviously your snowball fight lasting 3 hours caused more flight delays
