HERES new topic!

Im looking forward to the BRS expansion! Currently BRS has also expanded its traffic. Rumour has it that the summer will be busier than ever!
Lets hope that the the long serving airlines like BY, AMM, AIH etc
do not suffer. Recently i was on a BY flight and we had the pleasure of a parking stand away from the airport. not only did we have to wait 40 mins to get bused to the terminal. but we waited a further 30 mins for luggage. Mean while EZY flights were coming and going and passing us by as if we were the outsiders of the airport.
What BRS needs is a new handling agent. More staff and perhaps a little thought of the airlines who served BRS before they were hit by orange. Dont get me wrong i prefer to fly from BRS and the routes they have at the moment are fantastic, but everyones entitled to an opinion so lets here it off those who feel if the expansion will be good or bad?

Where were you parked? The Downs?

The reason why you were parked on the western apron and not on one of the front stands is because there are only two front stands that can handle the weight of a 757 and because the charter guy’s only fly once a day during the winter period, if they were to be parked on one of the front stands they would be blocking that stand for the rest of the day/night.

As for waiting 40mins for a bus, this is hard to believe. When your flight landed there would have been 2 Cobus 3000’s waiting for you. These buses can carry up to 100 passengers each so 2 1/2 buses would have been needed for 235 passengers. What will cause a delay in disembarking are other passengers fumbling around in the over head bins, having a stretch in the isle or chatting to the crew.

As for whinging about waiting for your baggage, you have to remember that there are 220ish bags on a BY 757 and if I remember correctly, BY’s policy is for the first bag to be on the belt at +20 mins ATA. Now if your bag wasn’t the last on, and therefore the first off, then you can pretty much guarantee that you will have wait for your bag. Another thing you have to remember is that the EZY 737’s usually don’t have that much hold baggage so passengers don’t need to wait at the carrousel and can exit quicker than you.

So to recap, BRS does not need another handling agent because Servisair and British Airways already do a cracking job nor does BRS require anymore staff. What is needed is for more passengers to realise that BRS is a busy regional airport that serves them well and that inevitably they will have to wait. I wonder what you would have to say if you flew from LHR where it can take 15-20mins to get from the aircraft to immigration, a further 15-20 mins (sometimes longer) wait at immigration, another 10-15 min walk to the baggage reclaim area and further 40min wait for your baggage to arrive...So it can take up to 1h 35mis before the wait to find your bag.

So please, consider this the next time you fly from BRS...

Yes, good reply.

I flew to/from ACE with Britannia in December on a Sunday and we left from and returned to the Western apron. My wife and I usually stay in our seats until the majority of people have got off (someone's got to be last so why fight the rush?), but on this occasion we lost out. The third bus was late arriving at our remote stand and we had to wait on board for about fifteen minutes. In fact, as we subsequently entered the baggage reclaim area 'our' carousel started up so in the end we lost no time at all with the delayed journey to the terminal building.

However, I have just visited the Bristol Airport Eastern apron live website and there are three Britannia 757-200s parked side by side on stands 1, 2 and 3 - the three stands where a/c park nose in to the main part of the terminal.

They are G-BYAD (from/to SZG), G-BYAS (from GVA/to AGP) and G-BYAI (from/to ALC).

****So to recap, BRS does not need another handling agent because Servisair and British Airways......*****

BRS desperately needs another handling agent, as the airlines are completely governed by servisair and the airport - who work very closely together ( we wont include BA handling as they are a different entity).
It is very difficult for airlines to get tip top service at BRS due to Servisair having the complete monopoly of the airport. If your not happy - its tough there is no other option, and more importantly no competition.

I am certainly not slating servisair BRS, as they are fairly good. BUT, there are days when they will drive you up the wall due to there being no competitor to keep them on their toes!!

There is plenty of room there for another company.....
