Virtual / Paper Airlines Using Their Own Flight Prefix Codes

HI THERE,

Say, you are a Tour Operator/Broker that charters an aircraft from a UK/EEC airline.
The airline chartered looks after everything operationaly but the aircraft will be in the Tour Ops/Brokers livery and crew will wear the Tour Ops/Brokers uniform to give an impression to the public that you are an airline when in actual fact... you are not... the chartered carrier is the airline but you have branded it to give a complete image of your product.

Whilst the operating carrier will be responsible for everything operationaly, the Tour Op/Broker wishes for its own flight codes to be used.

ie: Travel City Direct charters Air Atlanta aircraft but also use TCY as a flight prefix.... TCY is a tour op and not an airline.... how is this possible.

So is it quite easy to get a flight prefix to use for your chartered flights or is there quite a few restrictions.

Hope someone can help me out here.

Cheers

Air Atlanta do not use TCY as a flight code. It had been planned by Travel City Direct, and was on used on passengers tickets.

Shortly into the contract, the TCY was replaced with 5A - Air Atlanta Europes 2 letter designator code.

All other Air Atlanta Europe flights operate with EUK flight numbers.

i understand what you are saying and im fully aware of what air atlantas prefix codes are.

what im trying to get answered is.... Travel City using TCY on their tickets or any other tour op that does the same.

Is this general practice if you are chartering an aircraft over a long period of time.

The flights use to be displayed as both 5A and TCY.
Is this how they got round it by displaying both flight numbers but only printing TCY on their tickets.

Confusing i know but wondered if someone can explain to me how this allowed or is it just a branding thing that the CAA / Airline allows.

cheers
