Manchester delays

Official figures show delays for passengers at Manchester worsened last summer.
Manchester airport had the worst record in the UK on charter flights, only 66% getting away on time, it was also the worst for the amount of time they were delayed.

Well that dont suprise me when you look at what other airports handle charter work!!, London Gatwick is the only other airport that comes even nearly close to working at capacity.

Its well known at Manchester that it aint unusual for aircraft to wait for 30 minutes plus for a stand to become available. Something that will only get worse when Easyjet and Jet 2 both have there full programme running out of Manchester.

I think it is about time that Manchester looked at sodding off the B.A. regional 145's to a regional airport.

Fingers Crossed.

Although its anathema for most airports to actively get rid of traffic, isn't the better option to farm the charter traffic out. A (un)healthy percentage of MAN's charter passenger base comes from the immediate catchment areas of LPL, LBA, MME etc, so running the flights on-time and from more convenient departure points seems a win-win for Joe Public.

Sadly, with the pressure BACX will be coming under in the North West, they may have little choice but to scale down.

EZY will fly from MAN if for no other reason than to stop others from gaining market share.

Delays

..... the charter delays (it was 68% not 66% ontime) increased due to the amount of delays and knock-on delays caused by the Hurricanes that hit Florida and the Carribean. On a positive note Sheduled flights faired better and are as follows

AIRPORT PUNCTUALITY
Scheduled flights July-September 2004
Heathrow 61% (21min)
Edinburgh 68% (17min)
Gatwick 69%(17min)
Luton 72% (16min)
Glasgow 73% (15min)
Stansted 76% (12min)
Manchester 76% (14min)
Newcastle 78% (12min)
Birmingham 78% (13min)
London City 83% (9min)

Performance on Scheduled flights vary dependent on carrier. Below is lifted from www.flightontime.info which has just been updated and seems linked to the story.

VLM performance is excellent as is Bmiregional. At the bottom end at an average of nearly 30 mins delay per flight are Bmibaby and PIA. Bmibaby being lowcost may be suffering from aiming for too tight a turnrounds at Manchester, for PIA its maybe just the scale of the operation.
