scrap it's order for 7E7 aircraft unless the carrier gets a total of $500 million in wage and benefit cuts by the end of next month.
Hmm, does this not smack of a hint of coercion on the part of CO. "Accept pay cuts or we don't bring in new aircraft". Surely they knew their financial position before they placed the 7E7 order?

I really hope their pilot group have the nuts to tell them to screw off. They want the planes, bring them on. The pilots shouldn't be financing the new aircraft for them.

What's next; Give us more money or we wont buy fuel for the flights?

This is getting really ridiculous...

Thumbs down Other Changes at Continental

Gordon Beuthene, the Chairman was forced to retire at the end of December because of his age. From my readings I believe Gordon was a good leader, he started out at the airline as a mechanic and worked his was up. He's also a licensed pilot and is type-rated in several aircraft. He has picked up several new aircraft at the factory and flown them to their home base. He has stood up for the workers, however, with his departure all bets are off. We all know what happens when bean counters start running the show.

It would be a real shame to see CO going down hill. I used them in '99 - wasn't too impressed, but their service standards were much improved when I used them from BHX in Feb last year. Their regional network from the UK is a really important development, and it would be a great shame to see this suffer. I do wonder how many of their problems will go back to them getting rid of GB?

This is a classic example on how the news media attempts to sensationalize any information... to make it newsworthy. The $500M was discussed back in November 04 and for those who are interested so did the press release regarding these orders on December 29 clearly stipulate these orders were contingent on Continental’s board approval, which also included the $500M in employee concessions...

one of the more constructive comments I have seen today…
