Lightbulb 2005 Us Airline Predictions

THIS IS WHAT I THINK IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN 2005 TO US MAJOR AIRLINES! PLEASE POST WHAT YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN IF U WANT TO! THANKS FOR READING!

1. UNITED WILL SLOWY LIQUIDATE
2. AMERICAN WILL FINALLY FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY
3. DELTA WILL CONTINUE LOSING MONEY
4. NORTHWEST WILL BE IN GOOD CONDITION. I PREDICT THEY WILL BE THE FIRST US AIRLINE TO PURCHASE 7E7'S. THEY HAVE BEEN CONSIDERING IT IN THE 4TH QUARTER OF 2004.
5. CONTINENTAL WILL BE IN GOOD CONDITION. THEY WILL PROBABLY BE CUTTING COSTS THOUGH BUT THEY SHOULD BE DOING WELL.
6. US AIRWAYS WILL FOLD. THEY HAVE BEEN SUFFERING FOR THE LONGEST TIME.
7. SOUTHWEST WILL BE DOING BETTER THAN THE REST. BUT ONCE THE OTHER AIRLINES TURN AROUND THEY WILL START HURTING. TIP FOR MANAGEMENT...GET INTERNATIONAL ROUTES!

PERSONALLY I THINK THAT IF UNITED AND US AIRWAYS GO UNDER, THAT WOULD REALLY HELP THE OTHER AIRLINES OUT WITH PASSENGERS AND INCREASED PROFIT. THOSE ARE THE ONLY TWO MAJOR AIRLINES I KNOW GOING INTO 2005 BANKRUPT. IF THEY STAY FLYING IN 2005 THEY WILL HURT AMERICAN!

Add to that NWA will squeeze Airbus on the A330-800/900 till they bleed giving the 7E7 a less than 50% chance.
I'm just an employee but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I predict your money would be better spent pursuing a profession other than aviation, given the present circumstances.

I believe that United will be here for quite some time yet. The airline is in a much better position than it was 18 months ago, and a number of the initiatives which have been phased in like BOB, Ted & p.s. have been well-recieved, and are helping UA's situation.

US Airways I think will fold outright, or will do a "Pan Am" and slowly spin-off its operations like the shuttle, the hubs, some of its express carriers that it owns ...? I've heard that the airline is even considering pulling first from a number of its A319/A320 aircraft and possibly relaunching MetroJet on their Florida & Carib routes.

Delta will have to improve its situation drastically to avoid Chapter 11. They have too many ageing aircraft types, complex labour issues (including at their connection carriers) & mounting debts. Would C11 be a good answer? How is Song doing for them?

NWA, Continental, Southwest & AirTran are definatelty in the best shape right now.

JetBlue are taking on the EMB190s & AA dont seem to be heading in any particular direction, although I did hear about an A300 replacement being mulled over the next six months ... any ideas? A 767-400 perhaps?

It is interesting that northwest is doing so well. I bet the fact that they have dedicated cargo aircraft ops is a big factor. They also seem to operate in hubs where they dominate.

AA will certainly make out now that Delta is pulling out of Dallas. Not to mention if something where to happen to UAL, which would allow AA to gain some ground in ORD- something they have been wanting to do for a long time.

I really hope nothing happens to UAL, though. It is a really great airline with a great bunch of employees. They allways treat me like gold when I jumpseat on them.

I think JetBlue will really grow in the northeast. I'm not sure I like their plan of acquiring the EMB-190s, but I think they will be in a good position to acquire USAir's assets. Especially their routes in the northeast. Maybe even moving into Charlotte or Boston if they go under.

Sqawk7700...Could'nt agree more. Hmm when will these guys figure out cargo pays the bills when selling $99.00 fares. To me one of United's most fatal mistakes was getting rid of there cargo aircraft.

I agree that getting rid of the cargo division was a bad mistake, but getting rid of the DC-10s sure was not! I remember flying on a pax version of UA's DC-10s about a month before they were about to be retired on an LAS-ORD flight, and when talking with some UA crews in LHR they were saying that the things (except safety issues) were just being left because they were about to be retired. The planes were just falling apart. What would UA have replaced them with? 767s perhaps?

I think, despite a number of peoples' objections to the airline-within-airline thing, that Ted & PS are doing well for UA. I fly with them about four times a year visiting friends & family in the US, and all the crews I've spoken with are very pleased with it, and they say the management are too. Apparently PS could be expanded to more long-haul routes, and Ted could gain up to 15 extra A320s ... anyone know more?

Looks like another nail in the coffin for US Airways, as Southwest are now starting up in Pittsburgh.

http://www.forbes.com/business/healt...ap1741258.html

What do they really have left of value, apart from a few niche international routes (they are one of the few airlines flying to the USA from Glasgow, but still by no means the only one), and the BOS-WASH corridor shuttles? I don't see Charlotte ever becoming a major international hub, and I'm sure Southwest are eyeing that up to.
