Jabird- MYTlite are and have been cutting back for a while now so the increases in Flybe and BMIbabys figures will be offset somewhat. I suspect the 'lite' brand will disappear within 12 months but with monarch looking like they will do a real job then I don't forsee any more drops in fact it looks like a very good summer ahead..........

Apologies if this doesn't belong in this thread -
I've checked out the brum intl website looking for some info on bacx routes from there:
Destinations
Aberdeen, Barcelona, Dusseldorf, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Geneva, Glasgow, Hamburg, Hanover, Lyon, Madrid, Milan Malpensa, Nice, Paris (Charles De Gaulle), Rome, Stuttgart, Vienna
Is there anyone out there that might know which a/c goes to which destination or where I might find this out?
Cheers
sorry - should say which a/c type rather than individual planes!

I've recently heard a rumour that Euromanx are to take over the daily IOM-BHX flight from Flybe with a Dornier328. The flight will be codeshared between Euromanx & Flybe (in the same way the London City route is) & thus, FlyBE will no longer operate any flights to the Isle of Man

An Emirates spokesman in last week's B'ham Post said that there is the potential for a THIRD daily flight.
He cited BHX's position as more favourable than LHR for people from the West Country, for example.
He did go on to say that BHX needed to get on with the job of runway and terminal extensions, however.

Just to confirm that the Emirates reverts to a 772 once a day from the 1/8/05 to the 31/8/05 then is scheduled to return to 2 x A330.
This has been on the Emirates timetable for some time.
I believe shortage of aircraft due maintainance was the reason given however I suspect that the LHR 5th flight may be the real reason.

May 2005 Passenger Figure
May Passenger Figures from BIA
Birmingham International Airport (BIA) enjoyed a record breaking
month in
May, handling 852,737 passengers, a rise of 7.1% on the same month
last
year. The increase signifies the Airport's steady growth thanks to the
launch of several new airlines, increased frequencies and new routes.
Commenting on the record figures, Managing Director Richard Heard
said, "BIA
has enjoyed strong growth in all sectors, both in terms of new
services and
increasing frequencies on existing routes. These figures are evidence
that
airlines and tour operators continue to recognise the huge benefits of
operating from Birmingham and making more flights and holidays
available for
Midlands' travellers."
Scheduled traffic grew by 18.7% overall with growth achieved on
transatlantic routes which experienced a 51.7% rise, on domestic
services
which grew by 18.2% and on European routes which rose by 15.8%. An
increase
in passengers was also seen on non-EU services which recorded a 53.6%
rise
and the number of travellers using services to the Indian sub-
continent grew
by 20.9%.
Other scheduled routes which saw a rise in traffic over the month
were,
Prague (+139.1%), Vienna (+99.6%), Larnaca (+86.9%), Lyon (+84.1%),
Milan
(+53.5%), Amsterdam (+26.9%), Edinburgh (+26%), Zurich (+9.8%),
Hanover
(+9.2%), Helsinki (+7.6%) and Perpignan (+ 4.1%).
Although the number of charter passengers fell by 11.2% overall
during May,
growth was achieved on several routes including Mexico (+189.6%),
Bulgaria
(164.2%), Turkey (+30.3%), Malta (+29.2%), Channel Islands (+15.4%),
Croatia
(+15.1%) and Cyprus (+14.2%) reflecting a wider trend across the
charter
market.
Scheduled traffic accounted for 67.8% of the total May figure while
charter
passengers made up the remaining 32.2%.

Excellent news for BHX, passengers finally on the increase again, hopefully an even bigger increase for june with bmibabys new routes and Air India operating for the whole month!
Also on the BHX website it shows EK 38 as being cancelled! Anybody know a reason for this? Could the earlier power black out in Dubai have caused this?

This from today's Birmingham Post....
Excellent news if it is true.
Brum to Chicago route back on agenda Jun 30 2005
By Paul Dale Chief Reporter
American Airlines executives are giving serious consideration to re-opening direct daily flights between Birmingham and Chicago, three years after the service was axed.
City council leader Mike Whitby is to meet the company's head of route development to discuss the practicalities of returning to Birmingham International Airport.
The meeting, to be held in Dallas, follows talks between Coun Whitby, American Airlines managing director for corporate affairs Bill Hood, and Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago.
Coun Whitby (Con Harborne) said he was optimistic after visiting Chicago earlier this month that the transatlantic link would be up and running before long.
The council leader also sought the backing of the Prime Minister when he met Mr Blair at Downing Street.
Coun Whitby said the economic case for direct daily flights between Birmingham and Chicago, as a driver for inward investment and regeneration, was very strong.
He added: "A direct Birmingham to Chicago flight is an essential catalyst in boosting regional economic activity."
"I mentioned to the Prime Minister that, if the economic overheating in the South-east of England is to be addressed, an extended runway for BIA is vital and, in the future, a second runway," he continued.
" The Prime Minister endorsed that view and asked his private secretary to look into the issues of how we can enhance BIA and bring forward extension of the runway."
AA pulled the plug on its Birmingham flights in October 2002, blaming the business community for not using the service enough. Too many executives preferred to travel to America via Heathrow, it was claimed.

Of the Birmingham Airport site pax figures for June 2005 were 960,419 an increase of 9.1% over last year and more importantly an increase on 2003 which was higher than 2004.
Nice to see a reversal in fortunes at last.
Lets hope it continues during the winter 2005/6
