Question BHD + Futura

Well went into work as per usual this morning, and heard person mentioneing about 737 ops from BHD.Understandibly I thought they was on about the FlyBE replacement for 146's but later found out that their has been murmurs of Futura next year initally operating flights to Malaga from BHD.Now i stress this is only what I had heard but certainly interesting if true.

Perhaps the rumour mongers who started that little fairy tale should take a trip to the International airport and see how much runway is used on a typical take off for a Spanish destination.
With a full payload (16800kg) a Futura B734 would require
approximately 2000m of runway to depart safely.

Nice rumour if its true - What other flights do Futura currently operate from NI.

How would a BHD offering to Malaga hold up against Easyjet from BFS ? (presuming a fully loaded B734 could take off and land at BHD)

Well these are the ones i can remember flying this summer;

Reus
Mahon
Lanzarote
Malaga
Alicante
Palma
Corfu

All apart from Malaga and Lanzarote were operated by 738s.

Saw a copy of NI Travel News today - headline says first charter to Malaga at Easter 2005 by which time a full summer programme from BHD will be announced - tour co is Teleticket/Servitour so presumably flights will be operated by Futura - good news for BHD!

ALLMCC, if you are correct and Teleticket are moving from BHD to BFS that is indeed good news for BHD. Though kinds of puts the brakes on Flybe's rumoured plans to launch routes to Spain in the summer from BHD.

Teleticket are probably getting a hammering on their 2 spanish
routes at BFS as they are head to head with EZY. Their product offering may improve somewhat by moving to BHD and tapping into the wealthy North Down & Greater Belfast residents who want to visit their villas in Spain.

Any idea on the start date and frequency of flights ?

Perhaps I should have said that the BHD flights are in addition to both BFS & LDY - presumably the tour operator feels there is a market for the full IT package as opposed to flights only - I don't have any further info on start dates etc other than what I've already said.

I would be extremely surprised if Flybe ever had any serious intention to operate to Spain from BHD. Any destination gaps left unplugged from BFS will probably be filled in April by the orange bunch or J2. Perhaps they should try BHD to Brest or Bergerac in a Q400. Only once a week mind..give them enough time to fix it!

Has anyone any confirmation that the BHD to Malaga flights are to commence in March 05 as per the NI Travel News report.

I see no mention of it on the teleticket-flights.co.uk website

As far as I know,Teleticket has concentrated activity at BFS and LDY for 2005 due to supplements imposed on charter airlines for daytime departures.Prefering to fly at night and off peak hours in order to compete with scheduled operators to Spain from Belfast Intl, teleticket would have had to operate their services during the night basically at cheap rate times, so operations from Bhd are not warranted. Also smaller aircraft could not be sourced by the provisional operating carrier to supply Med runs from Bhd as the runway length at Bhd is also a major factor. Now that Abertis and Aena(spanish airport operator)are just about to buy Bfs,Cwl and Ltn,this could also have an effect on future air travel(both scheduled and charter)from the uk to Spain as Aena join the dots on their now ever increasing european airport network."Incidently,I have also noticed Flyglobespan are not offering a schedule from Bfs to Alc or Pmi this summer either so I think that both Ezy and Ls have had an impact on charter bookings and people are just doing their own thang and orgainising their two weeks off work themselves,Good luck to them. However we should all remember,Teleticket is a seat broker basically, and if bookings do not warrant, the broker will of course use existing charter services and not take the risk of chartering for themselves,as what happened to Hamilton Holidays.IE FCA flight 1103 from bfs to tfs,all agents sell this flight and the big boys like Thomas Cook,Mytravel and JWT all have an allocation of seats. A week before,if any seats are left, they are given to agents and the likes of Teleticket to sell at the best possible price. If the seats dont sell, anyone can buy a charter standby at Bfs.Finally, anyone who buys a charter standby ticket can use the value to another destination if they cant get on the original flight trhey wanted. That could never be done at Bhd.

Looks like Malaga is now going to happen from BHD the website: teleticket-flights.co.uk
have now announced that they are now selling seats on flights from BHD from June time onwards.

Interesting to see how this fairs against the competition.

I actually read from Jim K who was at Holidayworld exhibition in the KingsHall and one of the ladies paper said it would be a 735 operating the route and probably BmiBaby's a/cs.

ALLMCC - I think it unlikely that Flybe will be doing BHDAGP as you say. The 2 737's will have their work cut out in BHX doing two rotations to the sun each and every day.

However, things change, and maybe we will see the odd AGP flight. There may be reason to do it on a Saturday for example in conjunction with the BHXBHD, but I would be very suprised to see a 737 based at BHD.

With all the new activity at BHX this summer and possible overcapacity on AGP with BmiBaby, Mytravelite, Flybe and Monach Scheduled all operating scheduled flights.....anything is possible.

With Flybe's extensive operations at BHD and their ever expanding customer base, maybe they will give it a go.
