Just because LBA flies all over Europe which is good for the area maybe they should stop running before they walk. Not enough stands for the aircraft at Leeds. check-in rubbish, going through security takes forever not enough staff to run the place one ambi lift when it is working etc etc etc

Not enough stands for the aircraft?

Thats why they all manage to park all the time, and with the closure of 09/27, they will be even more stands avaliable.

Dont see whats wrong with Check in, especially now we have got Check in hall B taking away alot of the strain off of Check In Hall A.

Going through security takes a long time at any airport these days I have found, I have queued far, far longer at MAN than LBA, alright MAN is much busier, but its never taken me 'forever' to get through security at LBA.

Never seen any staff shortages, and I wouldnt know about the ambi lift.

Think you should go and visit some other airports before critiscising LBA.

I agree with Ciampino,

1. Why have they got to use a prefectly good runway for the sake of parking aircraft on it??
Because they have no more land to expand!!

2. They are short staffed ask anybody that works up there.

3. There are constant complains about the terminal area and the check in, there is no room to move when alot a flights are checking in, dispite Hall B being open.

So come on LBA open your eyes just a little bit more!!!

Well obviously LBA didnt imagine this much growth when they first opened, so they will have to use that runway. Why not?

I agree Check in hall A isnt the best at times, but with the opening of the really good Check in Hall B, it can only get better.

I never notice any understaffind, but then im only a PAX there, I dont know things on the inside.

On another note, a Greggs is opening at LBA! mmmm

What development

LBA It seems to me that all you talk about is new routes here and new there but surely the Airpot should start investing all this money they are making on improving the facilities and becoming more professional with regard to running LBA

No one seems to have mentioned the new massage lounge upstairs next to the manicure lounge. The airport website has been very slow with advertising its new retail partners!

Expect an announcement soon of a flight to pakistan, i think the airport are holding back until the airline has completley confirmed all details before announcing any new routes.

Im definately looking forward to cheaper food at gregs in the airport for my break instead of £3.50 a go for a sarny! cant wait!

Today of course was the 1st FlyBe flight to Southampton, lets hope it goes well and can go 2x daily eventually.

Ciampino, I dont care what you think to be quite honest.

Ashmac, do you mean the Swefly via Skvasta or a direct Pakistan service?

LBA I thought you was not interested in what i said, of course you should be interested in new routes that is good for everybody. More routes more pax more problems that is my point sort out some of the problems, re-invest the money the airport is making. You think the staffing levels are ok at LBA well explain this to me aircraft lands at LBA from one of the many European routes you harp on about, paxs disembark and walk to passport control oh dear nobody there what shall we do just walk straight through was the reply from the agent off they go collect there bags and leave, understaffed? unprofessional? i think so

LBA Expansion

LBA Expansion is what this thread is based on people.

If your interested in LBA and its growth, WITH or WITHOUT a, 'spanking brand new terminal', then this thread is for you.

Ciampino, L-Band, it is fine to criticise the place, but you need to be more constructive with your criticism. I understand from your posts that you possibly work at the airport. If you hate the place then that's fine, but why bother spending so much of your time talking down the place. Have you nothing better to do? The LBA management have made quite a few blunders over the years, but it's still here today. One other way of looking at it is, how well the airport handles so many flights, with a terminal building that has so many constraints because of its bad planning.

So stop the bickering and get supporting!

L-Band: Why use a perfectly good runway for parking aircraft
The answer is simple, 10 years ago, the airport company used the runway primarily for light aircraft use. This was then a reasonable income for an under used 'international' airport. Now that the airport has biult up quite reasonable amount of services, it requires the cross runway to expand. For the airport to expand further, it was always inevitable that the short *1100m cross runway was going to be required as an additional parking area for the 'bread and butter' commercial aircraft. A 'perfectly good runway' that is only *1100m in length was never going to be long enough for the majority of the airlines using the airport.

Looking back to one of my previous posts, keeping inline with the topic:- What is the way forward? How can the airport expand further 'within its budget constraints' and continue to increase the services and choice from the region? What short-term measures can be put in place to act as a 'catalyst to further growth'?

Furthermore....... ciampino, your last post, I can assure that this was a one off case. As usual the story was 'sexed up' as one would expect by the Daily Star.

10 years ago the runway 28/10 was not used for light a/c only, it was used for any a/c that could not accept a crosswind from 32. The first runway at LBA is 28/10 the rest of the airport is built around this.

ILS 119.5 is correct Air Uk F27 used runway 28 in crosswinds.
Capital Short 360, Gill Air Short 360 used 28- 09 (10) for landing and takeoffs and even the Capital 146 used them for landing.I have supped many a pint at the Aero Club and watched the F27,Short 360 take off and land on 09 as it was then.

ILS32 & ILS119.5

Quite correct. Even just 8 years ago LBA had many flights operated by the aircraft types you have listed and on days with a strong crosswind Rwy27(28) was the savior of many potential diversions.

All those types are long gone from LBA, replaced by larger aircraft unable to use such a short runway and it comes to Leodis's point that 09/27 is only used by light aircraft these days.

The importance of 09/27 for commercial operations has reduced to the point where is it more valuable as additional stand space at peak times. However, a longer term solution will be needed soon if future (hoped for) expansion is not to be limited.

Leodis no i do not work at the airport but obviously you do. Lack of properly trained staff and security is constructive criticism but you and LBA do not think so, you and LBA just talk about new routes on this forum just like two peas in a pod

This is the Leeds Expansion thread!

There are many things at the airport that I am not happy with. The departure lounge looks horrendous and it needs a full refurblishment. There aren't enough seats for busy periods and the gate areas get over crowded. The departure walkway floor is still bubbling up and it's also a different colour to all the flooring around the terminal. I really dislike some of the airport company employees, they can really me off sometimes with their attitude towards other business partners.

This is still not a fare judgement of the whole airport or its employees. Over 2000 people work on or around the airport site. Ciampino, you have mentioned 'handling agents', 'security and 'staff', your ill thought out narrow minded comments are certainly not constructive and you are tarring an otherwise very good thread.

Here is a list of jobs of some of the 2000+ workforce and an idea of the hours some of them work.
