CO to EWR would be a real possibility with B757-200's. However this would mean LBA and EMA, in my view would be waiting a long time for transatlantic service

However I imagine there are bigger priorities such as NCL and maybe STN before DSA

DSA Continental

Just one point. The owner of EMA is the MAG, EMA has a good sized runway these days and it too has been finding it hard to attract any real kind of growth in the long haul sector.

Coming closer to home for a moment, does anyone have any opinions on which additional routes they'd like to see out of Leeds, low cost or 'quality' ? Berlin and Budapest might be a good bet (Newcastle has both these), Krakow and/or Warsaw for the Leeds Polish population, Toulouse and Bordeaux for the French summer season, Lyon, Turin and Salzburg for the skiing and snowboarding fraternity. On the business routes, a quality airline to Dublin, Dusseldorf, perhaps even Stockholm and Copenhagen.

Before anyone bites me 'ead off and asks me to produce a business case to support this list, I'll just reiterate that these are what I'd like to see, commensurate with the region's large financial and business community and population as a whole. I aint saying any would be viable.

Oh, I nearly forgot. Gatwick. And Stansted/Norwich.

New routes from LBA?

Well Mooncrest, I'd say the destinations on your list are probably next in line and if not on Jet2 or the FlyBe hit list, the airports.

I still think Jet2 will announce additional routes from LBA very shortly. Probably Budapest and Berlin are not a bad guess. That Europe map on the Jet2 website just looks a tad too bare for me from LBA on the east side of europe!!

With respect to your other destinations, I think FlyBe are most likely to start services to the mentioned Toulouse and Bordeaux.

I think BMI are most likely to start up services to Dusseldorf.

So certainly by 2006 I would expect Budapest, Berlin, Toulouse,
and also Gatwick. Other services like Stockholm, Copenhagen, Warsaw i'm sot sure. I do believe we've yet to see one or two surprises that could come from any airline.

Digressing slightly, the LBA management still have not posted the review of business for 04/05 on the LBA website???

One last thing I forgot, there's that New York thing??

* Jet2 to move into Hall B from 23rd March

* Hopefully the mystery around Jet2's CDG flights should be resolved soon. The following message has been added to their booking system over the last day or so:

"Flights from Leeds Bradford to Paris are not yet on sale for Summer 2005. Why not sign up to our mailing list and be the first to know when this goes on sale?"

Interestingly,a number of tour operators are already selling packaged breaks to Paris for summer 05 using Jet2.

* Air Southwest have added a Saturday rotation to BRS/NQY

* bmi have retimed the morning LCY service (now departs at 06:45, not 07:30) but have canned the BD505/506 sectors for the remainder of the winter.

These "what might happen" threads are getting as bad as some of the speculative armchair-airline stuff that appears on Airliners.Net.

There is a cat in merry hell's chance of bmi regional starting Dusseldorf, but they are holding slots at Munich for Summer 2005 for Edinburgh, Glasgow and Leeds services twice-daily. They could quite easily hand back these slots and not use any of them, so don't get your hopes up.

I have to agree on Dusseldorf. BMI's pals at Lufthansa would doubtless kick up a stink if they dared to operate to there from Leeds. It's probably the alliance with SAS that's also prevented the much talked about Copenhagen link from progressing into reality. I confess I never considered Munich.

It would be interesting to see what Jet2's response would be if another loco was to announce a raft of new routes from LBA, but not routes on which they already operate. I'm thinking of summer destinations in France and Italy, the Canaries and German touristy places. Given that Jet2 are the dominant (loco) operator at Leeds, would they welcome another outfit moving in on previously unserved destinations, or would they move fast in order to start operating them first. Thing is, there is still plenty of potential at LBA in many areas.

Re LCY are you sure about canning? Thought were increasing to 4 per day in Spring?

I am booked on BD505 LBA-LCY in February and have received no email from bmi to say this flight has been axed. However, a quick look on bmi's website shows that the 505 has indeed gone.

Good old bmi, they sent me an email a couple of weeks ago to say the departure time had changed to 10:00, but they haven't seen fit as yet to inform me that it is now cancelled. As I am booked on a through fare to FRA I am left wondering what alternatives they will suggest, perhaps the earlier LCY flight with a nice 5hour+ wait at LCY?

TG Unwashed,

Many of us have heard the same story that SAS and DLH have efffectively knocked LBA-CPH and LBA-FRA bmir routes on the head to avoid "diluting their loads from MAN". If this is true, then I think they are working under a false premise. I myself and friends and their families have regularly used KLM from LBA to connect to longhaul flights because we find it more convenient to get to LBA. I have declined cheaper fares with DLH because they have required I travel to MAN rather than a shorter journey to LBA. Therefore DLH have lost a passenger (from their longhaul flight) to a rival rather than diluted their shorthaul load from MAN.

Operating a small regional jet (bmir Emb145 or similar) would have little effect on the passenger numbers from MAN but this would, in my opinion, be balanced by the gain in connecting passengers onto other DLH services. For this reason a MUC service while very welcome does not offer the range of langhaul connections than FRA can.

bmir seem to be having a similar experience to flybe on the LCY service. Four returns per day is just too much for the start. Lets hope bmir have more resolve to get through the initial period. I even hear that there has been advertising for LCY-LBA seen in The City as well as the West Yorks region. Loads on the peak flights are usually OK but they can't support the service on their own.

On the topic of JET2 im wondering if any new routes are being considered such as Tenerife, Munich, Rome etc.
Also why did they axe the Milan route last year.
Moving on to BMI will they ever start a BMI Baby operation at LBA.

Hi,

Milan was axed due to the route under performing. Pax numbers were low compared to the other routes operated out of LBA by Jet2. Venice is much more sucessful now.

Moving back to the NY topic, the lbia site still has the survey about flights to NY. Is anything happening with the NY rumours or is it a no.
Surely a Continental 757 or an American 757 could manage JFK or Newark.

Cool Leeds Expansion!!

Aircraft parking stands to rise from 18 to 28.

Leeds Bradford International Airport is to go-ahead with plans to biuld new aircraft parking stands this summer. The long awaited decision will see five new stands been constructed this summer. An option for up to five additional stands has been taken for construction at a later date. The long awaited decision will also see the closing of runway 27/09. Taxiway Delta is to remain.

The additional capacity will allow for greater flexiblity to the airports based equiptment.

Leeds Officially the fastest growing city in the UK

At Last! Does anyone know if this is the long awaited filling in of the grass islands? Also are all stands going to be 737 sized or are some likley to be widebody capable? Shame 27 has to go though, there is still room to extend the apron eastwards but it would need a lot of landfill.
